We love this! My hubby is forever making different rubs and then saving some in our mortar & pestle or tucking it into another ziploc he labels! I started saving old spice bottles, but he hates how much the ones we have pour - this shaker however is perfect! There's a photo in the ad that shows shaking parmesan through it but I can't honestly see how that would work unless the parm was grated equally and very finely - I just don't know if it's possible. But for regular spice mixes, it's been great! We love mango chipotle but when we have nachos or popcorn, he overpours it, so now it goes in here! (Thank me for those flavourful bites later!) I love that it has a lid so the spices don't go "stale" if you will & just for storage, period. The handle is great ergonomically, easy to hold and the whole shaker is just a simple and clean design. Easy to wash or even just wipe with paper towel if appropriate. Very happy with it!

Attractive but does not work well at all. The holes are too small to shake out my bbq seasoning rub recipe. This would work well for sugar or flour, but needs bigger holes for bbq seasoning.

However, my wife (the baker) decided she could re-purpose this for her needs (which trump mine) for baking and decorating her Sourdough. She gives it 5 stars as well. Between us both, this has been a multi-purpose item.
The stainless steel body and lid make cleaning a breeze, while the 16oz size means more product can be dispensed between refills. Container is extremely lightweight yet durable, important for a long lasting kitchen item. Because it's SS, it can be washed between products (eg, baking and bbq) and it doesn't retain odors like plastic containers. We both use and enjoy using for our own desired purpose and as such, would recommend as a kitchen essential.

Seller says this has "medium" sized holes. Quite a few of my rubs use kosher salt (using kosher salt grains uses less salt BUT provides a big hit when you bite into one). Easy to use too much salt if you use regular table size salt (kosher salt grains are much bigger).

As you can see from the pic, kosher salt will not fit through the holes. You must use spices are are basically the size of table salt. Something like cumin seeds might fit, as well as fennel seeds. Not much bigger though.

I thought about drilling (ie enlarging the existing holes) in the stainless steel lid but that might cause issues down the road --rough edges, more susceptible to corrosion, etc. This is the only shaker that this company has on their books so be aware of what your needs are. You could still consider this if you just spread the larger salt grains by hand (ie separate from your rub recipe).

For a rub that uses fine grained spices, I think this shaker is perfect. Being stainless steel, it should never rust. It feels wonderful in the hand. WIth the plastic lid it comes with, leftover rub can be stored for short periods of time as well.

Love the size, love the polished finish and the artwork. Also love the plastic cover to seal in the freshness.
But for a dry rub, the holes are a bit tiny. If you use a blend of only "powdered" spices, then probably not an issue.
I like to put some dried herbs (like oregano) and coarse ground pepper and salt in my rubs, but the holes on this shaker are just way too small for any of that to pass through.
If the holes were bigger, this shaker would be perfect. I may try to put the cover on the press and drill out a few larger holes, because otherwise I really like this.
