This Orion dual piston brake caliper piston compressor is exactly what I needed to speed up the entire process of changing the pads on our 2020 Honda Pilots. I was using two bar clamps to compress the pistons but it takes a lot longer lining them up. This brake compressor does that all in one complete operation and just speeds up the entire process! The unit comes in two pieces for easy assembly and cleaning. The caliper clamping jaws are powder coated and crafted from aluminum, for lightweight and maximum durability. It works pretty much like a chalking gun and delivers up to 377 lbs. of force. Not that I need that much force, especially if I simply remove the master cylinder brake cap but it’s nice to know that it has plenty of power to push brake fluid back into the lines to drive the pistons back into the caliper cylinders. For double cylinders, this saves so much time, reduces frustration, and much better than using two bar clamps! Works with trucks, SUV, crossovers, and cars that use a double piston brake caliper. I really like that they included two caliper hangers, and the reusable gloves. The storage kit is pretty handy as well. This product is super handy and just saves a lot of time and frustration! Highly recommend for speeding up brake pad installation. It can also be used on single piston caliper as well! I like it much better over using my old bar clamps. Works great!

    This OMT brake dual piston compressor is a well made tool. The design isn't that unlike a caulking gun in how the mechanism works (a caulking gun on steroids anyway). The tool has a nice powder coat finish, is 100% metal, comes with a pair of handy caliper hangers (avoids damaging brake lines) and a pair of lightweight gloves. A storage case is not included.

    This tool is designed for use on dual piston calipers only, so if you are looking for a compressor and your calipers only have one piston, this isn't the tool for you. The tool uses a spreading motion when the handle is squeezed to apply pressure to compress the pistons into their housings (ensure the master cylinder cap is open before doing this to avoid blowing out the seals). The curved part of the spreader end contacts the pistons faces, while the "tooth" on the spreader hooks onto the middle support of the caliper on the side opposite the pistons. When you squeeze the handle, the tooth and the curved plate spread apart.

    The curved plate is 5" across from tip to tip. The front calipers on my 2500HD pickup have a total width of just over 4.5" so it spanned them easily. The two posts of the spreader distributed the force applied equally across the pistons at the same rate, and the rigidity of material used to build the spreader seemed to ensure it didn't flex at all. This in turn resulted in the pistons being driven in completely straight. That matters because it avoids damaging the caliper/piston/seals. Compressing 2 pistons simultaneously, while keeping them perfectly aligned is difficult without a purpose built tool like this, and it is very easy to ruin a caliper if you don't. The tool stayed in place while doing the job (no slipping) and it is easy to control the rate and amount of pressure applied with the trigger mechanism.

    In the past I have done this job with some pretty "hack-like" approaches (c-clamps for instance) and actually damaged a caliper to the point I had to replace the set. With this tool, that should never happen again, and when considering the price of this compared to a new caliper, it is a good investment. I do recommend this tool if you do your own brakes and they have dual pistons in the calipers.

    I received a caliper piston compression tool. If you do your own brake jobs like I do, one of the steps after removal of the brake caliper is to press the piston back into the caliper before installing the new brake pads. I usually use a c-clamp with a piece of wood to do this, but this tool promises to make this part of the job much easier. This tool is made completely of metal, seems well made, and the non-contact parts are painted a nice blue colour. The tool I received is designed for calipers with one or two pistons, and there are other variants of this tool from the same company that will accommodate other brake designs. The tool was accompanied by a printed instruction manual and 2 sturdy caliper hanging hooks, which will come in handy. The tool is quite simple to use, and there are only 2 parts which need to be connected together before its use. I found the black and white pictures a bit difficult to see in the printed manual, but the product web sites colour pictures are quite clear and easy to follow. I haven’t had to perform a brake job with this tool yet, but its easy to see how this tool will simply this process. Overall, a very nice compression tool for when I next do my brakes.
