    I have bought and gifted this tool multiple times over the years to new chainsaw users. Field sharpening is inevitable for anyone who uses a chainsaw. Best advice is tap in evenly with axe and make sure you tighten screw when not in use or it could be lost. One of those tools you didn't know you needed until you try it or see someone else use it.

    The stump vise is a handy device for sharpening a chain saw in the field. Just pound the vise into the stump and your are good to go. If a stump is not available, but another "platform is" available, just put something under the sharp points to prevent scratching of the surface. No use having the vise if you do not have a sharpening tool available to you in the field. But, if you intend to order the vise, you obviously have turned your attention to the need for a right-sized sharpening file.
