Product description
The Oreck Commercial 2100RHS upright vacuum cleaner has a 12-inch-wide cleaning path, a Helping Hand handle, an automatic floor adjustment, and a 35-foot power cord. This upright vacuum cleaner is better suited for cleaning carpets than typical canister vacuums and takes up less space for storage. The Helping Hand handle has received an Ease-of-Use Commendation from the Arthritis Foundation. The on/off switch is located in the handgrip for convenience. An automatic floor adjustment enables the vacuum cleaner to move between carpets and hard surfaces without changes to manual settings. A top-fill system helps prevent clogging at the intake and is hypoallergenic to trap dust and minimize allergic reactions. Two brush rolls turn at 6,500 revolutions per minute (RPM) and have a helix bristle pattern to move debris toward the vacuum inlet for cleaning. Side brushes help facilitate sweeping along walls. Clear bumpers help prevent damage to walls and doorways. A 35-foot power cord enables the vacuum cleaner to cover a larger area without changing outlets than vacuums with shorter cords. A cord guard helps prevent damage to the cord. The vacuum cleaner measures 6 x 13 x 35 inches and weighs 8.2 pounds. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) This product has received a Gold Seal of Approval from the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) for soil removal and indoor air quality. Oreck Commercial manufactures a variety of vacuums, floor machines, power sweepers, air purifiers, chemical cleaners, and related accessories. The company, founded in 1963, is headquartered in Plymouth, MA.

-Made in USA
-Suction
-Very lightweight/easily maneuverable
-Can easily get under furniture
-bag can hold a lot of dirt
Cons:
-It's noisy.
-Wish it had a way to disconnect the hose from the vacuum so I could have a suction tool/hose for hard to reach areas.
This is a no frills, purpose built commercial vacuum. Like the headline says, I liked mine so much, I bought one for my elderly parents. I love the suction on this vacuum. - Reviewed in Canada on November 18, 2017Verified PurchaseThe problem I was trying to solve with this vacuum is that I was tired of lugging a huge canister vacuum all over my rather small house where I have three floors and not a lot of room to maneouvre. Most of my floors are low-to-mid-pile carpet and for those that aren't carpet, I don't normally vacuum them - I mop and/or sweep.
Most of the upright vacuums that are readily available in stores seem to be heavily-marketed to look like they're more than they (like what is done with modern cars), and with this comes a significant amount of bulk and loss in functionality. I wanted a vacuum I could put in my closet when I wasn't using it, and something that went flat to vacuum underneath beds and other low-lying furniture.
You'll probably know by looking at this whether it's what you want - you are likely looking for function over form. It turns on and off. It has one height only and the cord is manually wrapped around cord retainers at the back. It's light (I can carry it one-handed up the stairs). It has good suction. It's quite noisy. It doesn't have a light. It doesn't have attachments. It is just what I was looking for.
For cleaning things other than floors, get Oreck's canister vacuum (BB1200DB or similar). It's a nice bridge between large canister vacuums and cheap handhelds and wins again in very similar ways.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 7, 2024Verified PurchasePretty expensive for something that won’t even last a year. It has been 11 months and it won’t pick up little pieces of paper or dirt. It just rattles around but doesn’t get picked up. I have taken it apart and checked for blockages and there is nothing. The motor just doesn’t work properly anymore. Really bad investment and I will never buy Oreck products again.
Edit: I just want to add that a couple months after this review it has stopped working altogether. The motor started smelling and I am fairly certain it just outright burned out. I kept trying to use it every so often just for the brush because I think it was good at lifting dirt so my other vacuum could pick it up. Now it’s going in the trash. Do not buy.
- Reviewed in Canada on November 29, 2020Verified PurchaseI purchased this vaccuum approximately 2.5 years ago. It is used daily in a house with 2 large dogs that shed profusely and constantly track in sand in the winter. I have a 3,000 sq ft house with every flooring type. regular carpet, shag carpet, indoor/outdoor carpet, hardwood, concrete, tile, linoleum. Absolutely excellent performance on hard floors- most other uprights I've ever tried on hard floors shoot gravel etc around. This one rules. I use it in every room. This vacuum does it all, and it's lightweight to carry up the stairs. Bagged style is so convenient. Do not let the bag get full and support the bottom of it when removing. As you probably know, there are no attachments to this vacuum, therefore, if you want to be able to vacuum high areas like curtains etc, you will need something else. I actually pick the whole machine up and run it over my couch. We bought this because of ease of use. My old cannister had a lot of features but was a pain in the ass to use and lug around. This one is a breeze. Couple tips for you, especially for large carpeted areas.
1. Because it is really lightweight, there is no massive motor that does all the work for you. This means there is a bit of an adjustment and it may feel hard to push at first. The trick is to line your pushing elbow up with your hip and don't overextend your arm. Walk forward 1-2 steps, then back. Don't extend your arm and push it way out far ahead of yourself.
2. If the time comes that you DO suddenly think it feels hard to push, like it's taking undue effort- it needs a belt change. We have used this daily for 2 years before changing the belt for the first time. Because it's easy to use and works on every surface in my home, it gets used a LOT. Way better than a heavy "does everything" machine that you dread using.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 9, 2024Verified PurchaseOur cleaning company has invested in eleven high-quality vacuum cleaners, demonstrating our commitment to providing exceptional cleaning services. These machines excel in handling low pile carpets and entrance mats, ensuring efficient cleaning. However, they may encounter challenges with shaggy carpets and could potentially damage the belt. Fortunately, belt replacements are straightforward, thanks to the easily accessible belt compartment door that can be opened by removing a single screw.
It's important to note that heavy daily usage may also lead to wear and tear of the brushroll. To extend its lifespan, the brushroll can be flipped over by removing the bottom plate. However, for optimal performance, it is advisable to obtain a replacement brushroll.
Regarding dust containment, we strongly recommend using HEPA bags, particularly the original Oreck bags. These bags effectively trap dust and prevent leakage, unlike most paper bags that tend to tear when full.
Lastly, it's worth mentioning that these machines operate at a relatively high noise level. Therefore, we recommend using hearing protection, especially during extended periods of operation.
In summary, these vacuum cleaners are highly effective for specific cleaning tasks, provided that proper maintenance and safety precautions are followed.
Rating: 5/5 with hearing protection, 4/5 without.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Sweeper
Verified PurchaseI love this sweeper! So many good features--powerful motor, good suction, goes from floor to carpet without adjustment, long ample cord, designed to get into tight spaces with ease, bumper protects woodwork, lightweight, affordable...on and on. It is a bit noisy, but advantages far outweigh the noise. Oreck is definitely built to last. Anyone looking for this sort of sweeper should not hesitate to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch as Always
Verified PurchaseI had my last Oreck for 21 years. So, of course when I broke it, I bought another. I broke my old Oreck, it didn’t break itself. The motor was still running strong. I had replaced a couple parts over the years, but once again, things that we broke … puppy chewed through power cord, etc.
Okay, on to my review of my new one! I love it just as much and believe there is no other vacuum on the market that could keep up with pet hair in our home. We have three German Shepherds (very heavy shedders, over 100 lbs each) that live inside with us. We also have two twenty pound, long haired cats. I thoroughly vacuum with my Oreck daily, and run my robot vac in between.
This new Oreck sucks the pet hair and sand (we live in rural Florida on dirt road and driveway) out of our rugs like a champ! People who are saying this is not like the old Oreck quality are mistaken. I used my old Oreck one day and this new one the following evening, and the new one is actually stronger! I vacuum so often, I know exactly how my rugs look after on pass with each.
To address some other negative reviews -
It’s not too loud! It’s equally as loud as any vacuum. If you want silence, use a broom. I prefer to vacuum all hard floors, as sweeping throws a lot of dust particles into the air to breathe, and I have dust allergies and asthma.
As a side note to that, owning an Oreck has vastly improved my quality of life, as it vacuums so deeply. My asthma has been under control since owning one - 21 years.
Another complaint I read is that the cord is too stiff and thick. Well, it’s a powerful vacuum, the cord needs to be heavy duty to be safe! And over time, it relaxes, making it quite easy to wrap.
Other people are saying this vacuum is heavy! It’s not heavy at all. It only starts to get heavy with all the crap it pulls out of your carpets and off your floors - much more than other brands. You are only supposed to let the bag get about 1/3 of the way full before changing. And by that time, it contains quite a few pounds of dirt, dust, sand, hair, and whatever else.
If my grandma self, with some physical disabilities can lift it, anyone can.
And finally, I have read that the cord it too long. This was the most shocking because it’s something I always loved about my Oreck. I don’t have to change outlets as often. In my opinion, the long cord is a pro, rather than a con.
I did wait a week before writing this review, and I will absolutely update it if, for some reason, things go south with my new Oreck.
I also absolutely adore the patriotic colors! I hated to see my pretty yellow one go, I was very happy to not have to get plain gray. I also like that the bag on the new one is a dust proof material, unlike the old fabric ones. Great improvement!
Unlike most people, I love vacuuming. I am sort of a vacuum connoisseur. I have tried out many other vacuums, as my adult daughters purchased them. They all own Orecks now, after going through lots of others.
And I was older when I got my first Oreck, so had used plenty others in my life.
Here is a test to do that originally sold me on my first one -
Thoroughly vacuum your home with your old vacuum. Get the floors, carpets, and rugs to the place where you think there is nothing left down there. Put a brand new bag in your Oreck and go over it all again. You will be shocked at what comes out of a “clean” floor!
