No more can opener accidents!
I recently cut my hand with a razor sharp can lid, so I decided to buy one of these safety openers. I'm really pleased with how easy it is to locate the opener properly on the can and clamp it down. Once clamped, it does take moderate effort to operate, and it takes more turns of the handle than other styles of openers. This was expected and the benefit is that it cuts through the can's rolled edge seam instead of the lid like conventional openers - or instead of the can wall like another style of opener. This leaves no exposed sharp edges on the lid or can, plus it prevents the lid from falling into the can. It also keeps the opener from coming into contact with the can's contents. There's no lip left on the inside edge of the can, so the contents is easier to empty. Overall, it's a much cleaner and safer method to open cans. This opener feels quite sturdy and I expect it to last a long time. The knob is easy to grasp and the handle is easy to hold on to, but if you're looking for an opener that requires less force to turn, then this might not be the best choice. There are powered openers available that open cans in the same manner though.
