The optical quality is nothing less than absolutelly stellar... Don't be put off by the misconception and general idea that telecomverters degrade image quality to the point that it is more advantageous to use digital zoom, or image cropping... Pack this teleconverter with the 40-150mm f2.8 pro and be amazed by the supersharp images you get, the almost 1:1 magnification = almost macro capabilities, and yes the images are that sharp!!!
The max apperture is stopped down to a constant f5.6, which is extremelly usable in real life nature photography. The focus speed is, at the most, only very slightly affected (I didn't notice any change). This teleconverter extends the 40-150mm to 80-300mm which is equivalent to 160-600mm ff format... For me 600mm is the limit for a hand held telelens, what a great piece of kit this teleconverter is! It increases the versatility of an already extremelly versatile lens.
