- Reviewed in Canada on June 16, 2025Verified PurchaseI've been tackling a bunch of DIY projects around my house in Barrie, and I was so sick of my old, flimsy utility knife where the blade would wobble. I decided to upgrade to this Olfa, and WOW.
This thing is a beast. The rubber grip feels incredibly secure in your hand, and the auto-lock for the blade is rock-solid. The blade it came with is terrifyingly sharp and has sliced through everything I've thrown at it with zero issues. The best surprise was the metal pick at the end – I thought it was a gimmick, but I've already used it to open a paint can and clean out a groove in some trim. It's a seriously well-designed, heavy-duty tool. Stop buying cheap knives that you'll just have to replace; get this one instead.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 30, 2023Verified PurchaseThis particular knife is one that I use daily and for several years.
The fin is the reason this knife gets the 5 stars. The fin can be used to open paint can lids, gently manoeuvre and drop in ceiling tiles. It can also tighten/ loosen screws.
There are many more uses for it. It is built strong and is durable. I haven’t had any break. I do give some away which is why I buy more.
It is a must have if you’re in the trades or generally need a good versatile knife.
Highly recommend

- Reviewed in Canada on February 26, 2024Verified PurchaseForget those wimpy cheap plastic box cutters or your kitchen scissors, just do it right the first time. If taken care of these will last a long time.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 27, 2023Verified PurchaseI’ve tried the slider blades and the knob blades and I much prefer the quick action and the versatility of the slider, best olfa in my opinion, love the one handed locking!
- Reviewed in Canada on January 7, 2020Verified PurchaseMy Use Case:
1. I mostly use this to shred cardboard and soft plastic packaging.
2. Occasionally used to cut hard plastics and very rarely scrape off things.
The Housing:
1. The Knife has a nice grip to it as it grips well with it's rubber material. I would appreciate it, if it had more ridges or shape to the grip but overall for my use it's no big deal.
2. The rest of the housing is made of plastic which I haven't had any issues with as it's lighter than it's metal counterparts.
3. The metal piece at the end has been quite useful for prying open things that I can't simply just cut at without risking damage to the thing inside and is a good inclusion.
4. The blade at the end is open. So if you pull back hard enough on the blade it will come out without even having to press down the metal at the end. This does have it pros and cons however my main issue is with 5.
5. The blade itself has no locking mechanism to keep it in place when used with excessive force like one of those turning tighteners or something. When the blade snags it snags and extends the blade.
The Blade:
1. The blade itself is very sharp and shreds through cardboard and plastic like it's nothing. The tip does tend to get dull but in comparison to other blades this has lasted way longer and stayed much sharper and only really dulled down with hard abuse.
Overall 4/5. Nice sharp blade, small problems here and there but overall a good product.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 1, 2024Verified PurchaseI keep loosing them and at that price 3 should last a week
- Reviewed in Canada on June 20, 2020Verified PurchaseThis is by far the best Olfa knife. The knives that use the wheel locking system for the blade are awful. If you happen to keep the knife on your person in a pocket or holster, the wheel has a tendency to spiral itself loose, causing the mechanism to release the wheel and blade. This slide lock does not suffer that problem. I have used these knives for years and only seen the frame break once after steady abuse. The pick on the end is quite useful at doubling as a scraper, flat head screw driver or many other applications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyday knife in my toolbelt -- updated after a year!
Verified PurchaseI have been using this knife for a year now -- updates at the bottom, the original review at top.
This "snap-off" knife replaced the traditional utility knife in my everyday tool belt. I chose the OLFA knife based on good reviews, and I like it a lot so far. It is so handy that it would take a some serious convincing to switch back.
First, it is great to have a sharp blade with a quick snap. The OLFA blades are really sharp, and seem about as durable as a regular quality utility blade. The non stick coating is great. I like that the blade can extend longer than a trad utility knife; handy for cutting thick and soft materials (foam, insulation, etc.) I would like the blades to be easier to find, but I just bought a bunch and will order more when I get low.
Second, the overall design is well thought out. The blade control is great (I am right handed, lefties may not like it as much). The rubberized handle is grippy and soft enough to save your hands. The strange tooth on the back end turns out to be pretty handy. I use it to open boxes, crease paper, open paint cans, adjust a gap when fitting trim, or even to smooth caulk or clean mud off your boots.
The only major disadvantage I notice is that you have to look at the knife to set the blade extension. With a regular utility knife, you can open it to where you want by feel -- this one you cannot. Something to think about.
Updated Sept 2021 -- Yep, still REALLY like this knife. It is easy on the hands, so handy to be able to extend the blade a couple of inches, and that strange metal tooth on the end has proven useful and versatile. If I end up using an old fashioned utility knife, I swap back to this one ASAP. The thing has been muddy, covered in paint, wet too often to count, and it still opreates smooth and the blade solidly clicks into place. If I lose it, I will order another the same day -- highly recommended!
Thanks for reading, and enjoy your work!

5.0 out of 5 stars it's an olfa knife
Verified PurchaseI think it's a good quality olfa knife, and the blades seem to handle the many things I throw at it.
the body of the olfa knife is wierd, with a sliding knob that brings the blade up and down, and it does get a little stuck trying to go upwards more than one blade, but it's still possible to use. I have no idea if it's a fault of the product or a learning curve of not reading Japanese.
also, this knife is extremely portable, and fits nicely in a bag. the knife comes fully assembled, and I haven't tried breaking the blades or replacing them, so I do not know how that process will go. I think the knife is very versatile, being able to cut cardboard and foam easily, whilst being able to cut into more durable things like chipboard.
the packaging is cute as well, and I have it hanging up as a dorm decoration because the design is cool.
just be weary as it is in Japanese if you can't read that, but it does come with pictures on the back with instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp. Durable. Versatile.
Verified PurchaseI always have a utility knife in my pocket. It gets used daily. Over the years I've had a few dozen utility knives. They must be alive since they wander away and vanish.
This OLFA knife is terrific. The handle is comfortable. The curve of the butt gives a good grip. The blade extends and retracts very smoothly. The blade (and the OLFA replacement blades) are the perfect example of "sharp." The coating on the blades seems to keep them cleaner so they glide through materials.
I have come to prefer utility knives with snap-off blades for most jobs. There is always a sharp cutting tip just a snap away. The long blades extend into odd places to do odd things like retrieving a small item from a crack. The long blades also flex quite a bit which makes flush trimming easy. That works for paint prep, too.
I recently had to paint the railing of a deck. A snap-off blade in a utility knife was the best tool for most of the prep work, with a little help from a standard scraper and a sanding block. The knife worked so well I only needed one sheet of sandpaper for 36 feet of painted railing, posts, and filler panels.
The back side of these blades is also handy as a scraper when you don't need super sharpness.
When Paul Seller talks about cutting a knife wall he could be talking about this utility knife. It's a great combo with a chisel and mallet on wood.
I'm very happy with this new knife. With a 50-pack of blades I hope this one does not grow legs and walk.
