This is a decent GigE (1000 Mbps) splitter that's reasonably well constructed with a typical aluminum alloy case/shell and for the most part works as expected without issues. However, it seems to have an significant amount of retransmission errors although the speed is still fairly decent during the tests and the errors are significantly less than those with HJ* or other chipsets from China. This particular Ethernet switch/splitter is intended in a narrow space where this would be a perfect fit.

Note that Ethernet does NOT allow splitting traffic of any sort and this is in fact a 3-port GigE (1 Gbps) switch in disguise. If you think about it, a 5-port switch would allow you to connect up to 4 devices and share the network via 1 uplink to the router or another switch and that's exactly what this splitter is (and does).

A 5-port Fast Ethernet (i.e. 100 Mbps) switch is about $20 at the moment on �鶹�� and a 5-port GigE switch is about $23; however, both of 'em are larger than this and they are often powered by a DC/barrel connector with an AC/DC adapter (provided of course) that can be a bit of a hassle especially if it's intended to be hidden from view and/or located in a narrow space. It's powered by standard USB-C port and a USB-C/A cable is also provided, which is good.

This has a dimension of 62x53x21 mm and its fairly small/compact in comparison (slightly smaller than most others of similar design and style, which is usually around 64x64x25-ish mm) and I don't believe you will be able find a 5-port switch, GigE or otherwise, that' the same dimension as this and I dunno of anyone that's selling a switch that's less than 5 (or even 4) port at the moment (of course you will likely to find some odd models elsewhere if you REALLY looked).

Similar to many other quality Ethernet splitters (or switches if you prefer) that I've come across so far (more than 2 dozens), this particular splitter also uses Realtek RTL8367S controller which is great and it's noticeably better than HJ-1503GE controller (that I wasn't able to find much relevant info which is always disconcerting and I'll just leave it at that).

Like most others with similar design and style, I'm also guessing that there is probably a 1x4 version out there (i.e. 5 port GigE switch). If you are NOT concerned about the size or how it can be powered, then I'd say an ordinary 5-port GigE switch is a better bet and much more cost effective network 'splitter' for you. Realtek RTL8367S is used by TP-Link TL-SG105 for those who care (which I have as well).

≡ Performance
So how does this perform? Well, it's similar to most other GigE (1 Gbps) switches out there in terms of speed; however, as you can see from the results below, there are quite a few retransmissions (Retr column) which is usually indicative faulty or inadequate hardware, or other external factors such as interference, wiring, or even networking config.

However, the same tests were performed against another 5-port switch that did not exhibit the same issue and the only variable here is this splitter. Having said that, the speed is still fairly decent and no issues are found with data integrity etc.

Btw, even at 100 Mbps, it's still sufficient and certainly more than adequate for streaming, 4K or otherwise since 4K (including high-bitrate ones) contents generally use less than 25 Mbps.

FYI, 946-947 Mbps is actually pretty decent given the circumstance.

The bottom line is this (assuming it works for you); this is a perfectly workable 3-port switch (or 1x2 GigE splitter if you prefer to call it that) that's reasonably well-constructed and does what it claims for the most part but most importantly for me is its relatively small size and it's powered by standard USB-C which few 5-port switches are. Btw, it draws about 0.25A at full load so this can be easily powered by standard USB-A 2.0 ports.

All things considered, this is a fairly decent 3-port GigE (1 Gbps) switch (aka 1x2 network splitter) that's reasonably well-built with an aluminum alloy shell/case and for the most part works as expected (for now). It's somewhat reasonably priced at $24 for what it provides and its overall build quality, versatility, and performance. You can knock a few bucks off if you care to shop around. Again, you can get a decent 5-port GigE switch for $23 although it's much larger than this.

FYI, 946-947 Mbps is actually pretty decent given the circumstance.

The bottom line is this (assuming it works for you); this is a perfectly workable 3-port switch (or 1x2 GigE splitter if you prefer to call it that) that's reasonably well-constructed and does what it claims for the most part but most importantly for me is its relatively small size and it's powered by standard USB-C which few 5-port switches are. Btw, it draws about 0.25A at full load so this can be easily powered by standard USB-A 2.0 ports.

All things considered, this is a fairly decent 3-port GigE (1 Gbps) switch (aka 1x2 network splitter) that's reasonably well-built with an aluminum alloy shell/case and for the most part works as expected (for now). It's somewhat reasonably priced at $24 for what it provides and its overall build quality, versatility, and performance. You can knock a few bucks off if you care to shop around. Again, you can get a decent 5-port GigE switch for $23 although it's much larger than this.

Setting it up is straightforward—just plug in an Ethernet cable and power it via the included USB DC5V cable, which is quite convenient. Its ability to take power from a USB source adds to its versatility. For instance, I powered it using the USB port on my monitor, which worked perfectly. This device operates like an unmanaged switch, allowing internet access by plugging an Ethernet into any of its 4 ports, which enhances its flexibility depending on its placement.

I connected it to an Ethernet from my wall linked to my router, branching it out to a laptop and another unmanaged switch that connected to another router and a desktop PC. Internet access was swift, establishing a connection in just about a second. The speed was impressive.

My internet plan provides 1000mbps for both uploads and downloads. However, I noticed an issue with the switch's routing capabilities; it doesn't manage bandwidth allocation efficiently between devices. During simultaneous speed tests on the desktop and laptop, the bandwidth varied significantly between them. Even after disconnecting one device, it took some time for the switch to adjust and provide the full bandwidth capacity of 1000mbps to the remaining device. While 200mbps is sufficient for most needs and might seem overkill, I had hoped for quicker and more effective bandwidth management. Despite this, its compact and handy size, coupled with the convenience of USB power, makes it a practical choice for various scenarios, like a small LAN party or sharing a single Ethernet port among friends without needing a wall plug.

The price is reasonable, aligning well with the quality and functionality it offers.

🏆 Overall:
While there is room for improvement in its smart routing capabilities, I am satisfied with this Ethernet switch and recommend it. It's a versatile tool with numerous applications, making it a valuable addition for anyone needing a simple networking solution.
