The instructions for this state what you should be able to do in terms of coloring and removing paint but after trial and error it still isn’t working. Finally gave up and “painted” the whole circle .

    So I did receive a used edition of this set and hey, that happens. It wouldn’t have bothered me much (although clearly someone had it and used parts because many of the bits were missing) but the use the tools had was enough to really show how poor they are. Both mallet faces were significantly worn and damaged and showed the plating flaking off to reveal a cheaper metal inside. The silicon skin on the base of the anvil was dirty (obvs used on a greasy or dirty surface) but it was also scuffed and worn like an old bar room floor after a few too many spurs.

    If it had just been used I would have kept it but the minor use coupled with the major damage suggests that this is not up to usual Owden standards. I have many of their leather tools, for example, and while inexpensive they’re really nice and hold up quite well. Pity that this set didn’t show that Owden quality.
