The device works as it should. It turned my wired carplay into wireless, which is good. I haven't had any issues, but sadly you can't have too much fun with the product.

Pros: Like mentioned, it works great over the past couple weeks. It is also easy to set up.

Cons: Connecting more than one device can cause issues if both or more device owners enter the car. This just makes the device and carplay confused as to which device should have the priority connection. I want to add that this also may be an error on my end. This result could vary by how I set up the devices, what carplay software version was used, or the devices firmware needing to be updated.

Overall, if you just want wireless infotainment, then makes for an effective product so long as you use it for yourself only. Though, I would probably considering buying this if it goes on a sale or price reduction.

I tested this adapter in my 2020 Kia Sportage (which doesn’t natively support wireless Android Auto) and it delivers exactly what I wanted: instant, cable-free Android Auto on startup. I was previously exposed to 2 other models from this manufactures through a friend, which he loved, but he did frequently have issues with establishing connection. I compared notes with him, and attempted to replicate some scenarios he said caused issues for him in the past. I could not replicate ANY of those issues, so I'm very pleased with this product.

Setup & Compatibility
- Plugged into the Sportage’s USB port—no software update required on my DA Gen2V head unit, with stock firmware.
- Paired with a Pixel 7a on Android 15 (only one phone tested).

Daily Experience
- Ultra-fast connection. It links to Android Auto as soon as the car fires up—no waiting or fiddling.
- Reliable. In dozens of starts, I only saw one 1–2 minute delay (likely my phone, not the adapter).

Stress Tests
- Turned the ignition off/on rapidly, walked out of Bluetooth range and back, and left the car overnight—every time it reconnected flawlessly.
- Simultaneously tested another Bluetooth gadget—no interference.

Pros
- Eliminates cable clutter on the passenger seat.
- Identical performance to a wired connection (maps, audiobooks, music).
- No more hunting for a dependable USB-A cable (my vehicle was very picky about cables for Android Auto to work).

Cons / Limitations
- Occupies the sole USB port—if you need to charge, you must unplug or use a separate 12 V charger.

To be clear, I’ve known about devices that stream your phone to the car via Bluetooth, but I’ve always avoided them because of the noticeable drop in audio quality. Bluetooth heavily compresses music, and I find the difference pretty obvious, especially in a quiet car. This device uses a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection instead, which maintains much better audio fidelity and avoids that muddy, flat sound you often get with Bluetooth streaming.

Setup was quick and easy, maybe a minute. I set the adapter’s Wi-Fi as a priority on my phone, so it connects automatically when I start the car (i.e. it automatically disconnects from my home network). It usually takes about 10 to 15 seconds to launch Android Auto.

One thing I was initially concerned about was battery drain while the car is off, since the device stays plugged into the USB port. Thankfully, on my 2019 MX-5, the USB ports shut off when the vehicle is off and locked, so the adapter powers down automatically. That said, some cars do keep USB ports live even when turned off, so it’s worth checking how your vehicle handles that.

It’s also very compact, unlike some of the bulkier options I looked at, and it’s barely noticeable once installed. So while plugging in my phone never felt like a huge burden, this has turned out to be a nice quality-of-life upgrade. I just wish I’d known it existed a few years ago.

Before trying this unit, I tried mini units from two other manufacturers, one of the manufacturers was a direct competitor to Ottocast.

This unit is very easy to setup and requires about five minutes for pairing two iPhones. Once both iPhones are successfully paired to Ottocast Mini, here’s how it works.

While iPhone-1 is connected and playing music or another CarPlay function, press the button located on face/top of Ottocast Mini. Pressing the button disconnects iPhone-1 and then connects iPhone-2. While iPhone-2 is connected and playing music or another CarPlay function, pressing the button will disconnect iPhone-2 and connect iPhone-1. Seems to have a “Round Robin” selection process, similar to how a 4-way stop sign operates with road traffic. I have only paired and connected two iPhones at the same time as I am not sure how it might work with more than two iPhones.

This unit works precisely how I think it should work with two iPhones. This is the only unit that I was able to find that includes a button that switches control from one iPhone to another iPhone, once both units are paired.

I am unsure of longevity/reliability of the unit since it was just installed today. However, if you have more than one iPhone that needs to be connected on a frequent basis, this would be my number one choice!
