If you work on cars, this tool is a time-saver. The OBDResource Smart Automotive Test Light is perfect for quick checks without needing to drag out a multimeter. I use it mainly for hardwiring dash cams, and it’s made the job easier when figuring out which fuses are hot on ignition vs. always hot.
The probe is sharp and accurate, and the included safety cap is a nice touch so you don’t accidentally poke yourself. The gator clip is strong and holds well on metal ground points. It also comes with a soft carry case to keep everything tidy in your toolbox.
The built-in flashlight is surprisingly useful when working under the dash or in low light, making it easier to find fuse contacts. Build quality is solid overall — feels like it’ll last.
The only miss? It doesn’t come with a AAA battery, so make sure you have one on hand. I’m using a lithium AAA and it powers it just fine.
👍 What I liked:
* Fast and easy fuse testing
* Compact with built-in light
* Comes with storage case
* Probe cap and gator clip are practical touches
👎 What I didn’t like:
* No battery included

- Reviewed in Canada on July 22, 2025This little automotive probe can really come in handy for just quick checks to see if something is energized. A little more sophisticated than a simple test light this will give a voltage and resistance readout depending on how the circuit is connected. There is no button to change modes it simply auto detects, however personally I would have liked a physical toggle. Also built in is a continuity beeper, but again there is no dedicated control to swap modes, its just all in one and it decides which you are trying to do.
It is built solidly enough for personal use and even comes in a tiny zip storage, it needs one AAA to operate which is not included. The display is backlit and there is even a tiny led flashlight for the probe itself. The ground clamp isn't the most rugged design but functional, and the coiled line is soft enough to stretch properly. Having a slim probe with the display on it and a clamp for the negative will come in very handy in many instances where I often find myself practically juggling wires and my dedicated multimeter for quick checks.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 16, 2025Not too familiar with the more...scientific parts of the testing, like resistance and stuff. I used this to check the voltages of the fuse box in the car for installing a hardwire kit for the dash camera. Worked like a charm!
✅ The built in light came in clutch. Super handy when the fuse box didn't have much room for another flashlight.
✅ Cable has a cap on it for safety.
✅ Relatively small and comes with a carrying case!
⚠️ I found that the case was a little bit tight. The grounding cable is bent pretty heavily so not sure how that'll impact it in the long run.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 24, 2025This is an awesome tool! Everything about it's construction is quality. Premium plastic body, long well insulated flexible coiled probe cord, thick pointed steel probe and a battery compartment cover securely held in place with a small screw. No battery is included. Battery installation (AAA) is easy, however polarity is not well identified in the battery compartment.
Using the probe is easy with the automatic measurement mode simplifying operation and minimizing the amount of buttons on the tester. I have been using it mostly for checking battery voltages and confirming fuses are not blown. The circuit tested has worked very well and given reliable results. Two of my favorite features/items are the back-lit display and lighted probe for working in dark spaces and the convenient case for storing the tester.
There isn't anything not to like about this circuit tester. It's quality made, compact, provides reliable results, has a back-lit screen and lighted probe and comes with a convenient case for storage. I definitely recommend this circuit tester from OBDResource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great test light and easy to use
This is a very handy tool to have around. It's easier and more convenient than a multimeter when you are just working on 12-volt car electronics. The auto mode switching makes it a breeze to work with.
I picked this up for a hardwired radar detector project. I used it to probe the fuse panel and figure out which fuse I could tap that would have 12 volts when the car was on, but nothing when it was off. You can see from the first picture that it's in ohm mode because the key is off, but it switches to DC mode and shows 12.04V with it on, indicating the perfect fuse to tap for my radar detector.
It is also good at finding a place to secure the ground wire. I was able to run a wire to my negative battery terminal and probe around on exposed metal and bolts until I found a good spot to attach the ground.
The backlit display is nice, and the built-in flashlight is handy. Overall, it's a great addition to the garage, especially for under $20.

5.0 out of 5 stars add this to your tool library
I got this tester to use in my RV since the DC circuits make up a majority of the electrical system. At first appearance the tester looks well made and appears to be able to stand the test of time with normal use. It came with a soft case and a clear and simple instruction manual. If you know how to use a Digital Multi Meter this tool is a breeze. I tested all the functions and it seems pretty accurate and gives a reading quickly. I like the auto mode because it takes all the guesswork out of the operation. You connect the ground and touch a wire or connector for a result. This only measures DC voltage so unfortunately its not a tool for checking control circuits in HVAC or Industrial equipment. If you are looking for a simple easy to use diagnostic tool to add to your tool box this is a must have. You can replace your test light, and several functions of your DMM and best of all it fits in your pocket.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight and easy to use. Backlight is a plus.
This is a great compact tool and a lot less expensive than a full-feature voltage tester.
I'm able to pack this away very easily.
The tester is easy to use. I've already used it on my truck on several fuses and the battery itself.
I assumed my batter was going out and this tool proved that.
I love the fact that it's easy to use and backlit.
The cord stretches more than enough when using it on my truck.
I would like it to be a little more sturdy, but I also appreciate how light it is. The included case will help prevent damage.
I plan to keep this in my truck in my travel kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good features
This tester kit includes a case and an instruction manual.
One AAA battery (not included) is required for operation.
Bench testing for DC voltage measurements matched the readings from my multimeter.
The clamp (negative side) and probe (positive side) are stainless steel.
The unit displays negative voltage when the clamp and probe are reversed.
The unit beeps when measuring resistance.
It has the ability to hold the reading display.
There is a 2 second delay when pressing the power button to turn the tester on and off. This reduces the chance of accidentally powering the unit off while in use.
There is an auto shutdown feature for inactivity but it can be cancelled if desired.
The backlight may be turned on or off.
A small single LED "flashlight" works well when working in dark conditions.
It is much easier to use for DC voltage measurements and continuity than a multimeter.
The only thing that I did not like about this tool is that the case is too small and may result in a damaged cord.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and GREAT.
I have always used my multimeter to test for continuity, and it works fine for that, but it's also kind of tedious to pull it out, hook up the right leads, find the setting you need, etc... so I wanted to try something simple like this specifically for those times I need to just check for continuity. It's a lot less bulky and a lot quicker to get up and running for simple things like that.
It works well. It can also read voltages which is nice. It also seems to be made pretty well but time will tell if that is indeed the case.
All in all, I think this is a pretty nice little tester to have in your tool kit. It came in incredibly handy when re-wiring my boat. I love it.
