About the author

Björn, an author and professor of ancient history, was born in the coastal city of Bergen, Norway, in the year 1960. He grew up with a passion for learning and was an avid reader from a young age. He was particularly drawn to history, and his fascination with ancient civilizations began to develop early on.
Björn pursued his education with the same zeal he had for learning. He attended the history course at the University of Bergen, where he was an outstanding student. He then attended the ancient history course at the University of Oslo, where he gained a deep understanding of the civilizations he would later write about.
After completing his studies, Björn worked as a researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Archaeology, where he gained invaluable experience in the field. He also began publishing articles in academic journals, which caught the attention of his colleagues and peers.
Björn's success as an author led him to pursue a career in academia. After moving to the United States he continued his studies and research at the ancient history section of the University of Cambridge, where he focused his work on the relationship between the Roman Empire and the Germanic tribes.
After completing his work in the USA, Björn returned to Norway, where he was appointed professor of ancient history at the University of Bergen. His engaging teaching style and extensive subject knowledge quickly made him a firm favorite with his students.
Today, Björn's legacy lives on through his writings and the countless students he inspired during his time as a professor. His work continues to inspire a new generation of historians and scholars, who strive to deepen our understanding of the ancient world.

3.0 out of 5 stars The book itself is okay.. but the quality
Verified PurchaseBook is fine great, got a lot of information. Came with some of the pages bent and ruined and like in the picture and pages falling out. Not even glued into the book, flipping through it and the page just comes off. Was expecting a hard case cover or a better presentation to it but overall it’s okay.

5.0 out of 5 stars A meeting of history and mythology
Verified PurchaseI loved that this book merged the real history of the Vikings and Nordic people with their belief system. It really puts the mythology and traditions in context. The book opens with a collection of myths and stories. These include how the world formed, how gods and goddesses came to be, how various things in the world came to be, etc. These were interesting to read. Then we get into who the Vikings were and some of the history of the Nordic region. This includes a look at leaders and battles. Another section looks at runes and how they influenced beliefs. There is also a discussion of Asatru. This book is well written and very informative.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time, effort and money
Verified PurchaseYet another example of 'copy and paste' book production. No research, no skill and no new material to learn from. 90% copied from a wiki page or three! Save yourself some money and go to wikipedia, world history encyclopedia and encyclopedia britannica - you can copy and paste the same for free.

2.0 out of 5 stars Written with poor grammar
Verified PurchaseI'd like to say this book is good, full of information about the old Norse gods and the myths that surround them. But i cant.
First, to my mind, its not 6 books in 1. Its 6 chapters in 1 book, each trying to cover a different part of norse history and Gods. But 1 chapter is just a list of Gods names and another is a list of the Norse runes, these could have been an appendix rather than listed as chapters.
The information on the Norse Gods is spares. It only covers a few Such as Odin, Thor, Loki and a few others with any for of detail, while others are just mentioned very briefely. At times it tries to show ther pronounciation of teh names but at other times it just skips a new name so you have to try to guess how its spoken. Its not consistant with this.
And its the Grammar and sentence structure that just makes it a bad read. It affects the flow of your reading and i had to go back and read some sentances twice just to try to gain meaning from them. It also repeats itself a few times in the same paragraph on occasion. Now, i know that English might not be the authors first language, but this shoul dhave been picked up in any proff reading by teh publishers before print?
If your looking for a book full of details and stories of Norse gods and thier deeds, or of Famous viking heros, then this book sinst for you. Its too brief, only covers a few gods and Vikings and lacks enough illustartions to help visualise what they may have looked lilke.
