About this item
- This bundle will allow you to receive detailed, high-resolution, near real-time images from orbiting weather satellites. With as little as an hour of setup, you will be receiving LRIT, HRIT and HRPT GOES transmissions, error-free and with ease! Applications include GOES (HRIT & LRIT), NOAA HRPT, Meteor M2 HRPT, Metop, FengYun and other satellites that operate near 1.6GHz-1.8GHz
- This GOES Weather Satellite SDR bundle includes a 21dBi GOES parabolic reflector antenna (1.7GHz center frequency, 200MHz+ Bandwidth), NESDR SMArTee XTR SDR receiver, SAWbird+ GOES LNA module, 10m LMR400 cable, and the other cables and adapters required for a full weather satellite receiver. Just add a host device and software, and you are ready to go
- Software is required for the decoding of images. The recommended option is SatDump, which is cross-platform and available for Windows, Linux, MacOS and Android. There are also other free Linux-based decoders, or the paid version of XRIT Decoder for Windows (license not included with purchase)

Product description
The included antenna is a high-performance L-Band GOES weather satellite parabolic antenna. It has a gain of ~21dBi and an LMR400 cable terminated with male SMA connectors to connect to your gear. The antenna is linearly polarized (vertical or horizontal depending on the mounting), with an electric field aligned with the main reflector and feed-point grid lines. It can be deployed for both linearly and circularly polarized signals (RHCP and LHCP). Assembled antenna dimensions are 0.99m x 0.61m x 0.38m (39" x 24" x 15"). It weighs about 2kg (70.5oz).
Our GOES antenna performs highly effectively when paired with the SAWbird+ GOES LNA module that is bundled within the package. The LNA features a gain of 30 dB, achieved through a two-stage amplifier, and a sharp custom-designed SAW filter in between. The module connects to the antenna’s short cable on one end, and the long LMR400 cable on the other, as it should stay as near as possible to the antenna.
The NESDR SMArTee XTR SDR unit will automatically feed the LNA through a built-in always-on Bias-T, which only requires a standard USB 2.0 (or later) port, in order to power the LNA module.
This antenna receives GOES broadcasts with ease due to its fairly confined radiation pattern, without the necessity of highly accurate pointing at the target satellite, as it features a 3dB beam width of 15deg (+/- 7.5deg) on the axis parallel to the main reflector and feed-point grid lines, and 10deg (+/- 5deg) on the orthogonal axis. It is recommended to mount the antenna on a pole of not more than 5cm (2") in diameter, and would perform equally well when mounted vertically or horizontally.
