Product Description

The NH-D12L is a low-height 120mm class CPU cooler that has been conceived to combine outstanding quiet cooling performance with superior case compatibility. At a height of only 145mm (13mm lower than Noctuas regular 120mm models), it fits many 4U enclosures as well as narrower tower cases that have been previously limited to solutions with 92mm fans. At the same time, its five heatpipe dual-tower design and state-of-the-art NF-A12x25r 120mm fan allow it to achieve a level of efficiency that surpasses many full-height 120mm models. Thanks to its single fan configuration and asymmetrical fin stacks, the NH-D12L provides 100% RAM compatibility on AMD AM4/AM5 and LGA1700/1200 by staying clear of the memory slots. Topped off with the renowned SecuFirm2 mounting system and Noctuas award-winning NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-D12L is the perfect choice for applications that require serious cooling performance but cannot fit the larger NH-U12A.
145mm height for broader case compatibility
While Noctuas regular 120mm CPU coolers stand 158mm tall, the NH-D12L measures only 145mm. This allows it to fit not only a wide range of 4U rackmount server cases and many tower-style enclosures that are not wide enough for 158mm units, but also some larger Small Form Factor (SFF) and Mini-ITX chassis.
100% RAM compatibility on LGA1851/LGA1700 and AM4/AM5
Due to its asymmetric design, the NH-D12L does not overhang the RAM slots on Intel LGA1851/LGA1700/LGA1200 /LGA115x and AMD AM4/AM5 based motherboards, which ensures easy access to the modules and 100% compatibility with DIMMs that feature tall heat-spreaders or RGB lighting.
Round-frame NF-A12x25r PWM fan
Introduced in 2018, Noctuas NF-A12x25 is widely considered to be the best 120mm fan on the market. The round-frame variant used on the NH-D12L provides the same renowned quiet cooling performance yet makes it possible to reduce overall cooler height without risking compatibility issues with tall motherboard heatsinks or shrouds.
Dual-fan options
The NH-D12L ships with a second pair of fan clips that can be used to install a second NF-A12x25r PWM fan either on the front or on the rear fin stack. However, it must be noted that the second fan will usually sit on top of either the RAM or I/O panel and thereby increase the total height beyond 145mm.

- Reviewed in Canada on January 4, 2024Verified PurchaseThe Noctua NH-D12L CPU cooler has exceeded my expectations in every aspect, earning it a well-deserved five-star rating. From installation to performance, this cooler has proven itself as a top-tier choice for anyone looking to optimize their CPU cooling solution.
Installation was a breeze, thanks to the well-thought-out design and clear instructions. The build quality is exceptional C the heatsink and fans exude durability and precision craftsmanship. The compact size of the NH-D12L makes it an excellent fit for a variety of PC setups, even in cases with limited space.
But where this cooler truly shines is in its cooling performance. The dual-fan setup efficiently dissipates heat, keeping my CPU temperatures consistently low, even under heavy workloads and gaming sessions. The whisper-quiet operation of the fans is a testament to Noctua's commitment to noise reduction without compromising performance.
Additionally, the NH-D12L's compatibility with various CPU sockets adds to its versatility, making it a future-proof investment. Noctua's reputation for quality and reliability is well-reflected in this CPU cooler, and it has become an integral part of my system.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 19, 2025Verified PurchaseReally decent performance and I am getting very little to no noise. Love the low overall height although I could have gone for the taller NH D15 G2. My preference was for a shorter cpu cooler. Love the RAM clearance, quality materials used. There's a lot of thought that went into designing this CPU cooler, I get why Noctua was recommended to me. I get a 6 year warranty which is outstanding. Downside is yes, it is expensive. You are paying for better quality materials, thoughtful design, better quality fan, larger heatsinks, more heat pipes and the ability to handle a more powerful CPU. In my case, I installed the i7-14700k cpu. I guess my only regret is I do wish I got the larger cpu cooler and maybe I will down the road.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 22, 2025Verified PurchaseFits in a 4u case well. Second fan had to be a 92mm because of size limitations from ram and I/O shield. The included bracket for second fan isnt probably made for 92mm fans but I made it work/stretch. Temps from prime95 are around 82c on the hotspot. AMD 9700x
- Reviewed in Canada on December 11, 2022Verified PurchaseI'm currently using this cooler on my 5800X3D in an Fractal Nano ITX case.
Due to the length of my GPU I could not run an AIO and my NH-D15 tower cooler was slightly too big to clear the PSU shroud. I came across the NH-D12L and it's worked perfectly. The included NF-A12x25r fan is fantastic. Quiet while still moving a lot of air.
The temps stay under 79c running full synthetic benchmarks, in the mid 50's to low 60's when gaming, and are in the 30's and low 40's for general web browsing. I am running a -20mv offset all core which has helped keep the temps lower while letting the 5800X3d maintain it's full boost clock indefinitely in benchmarks.
Even under full load the cooler is amazingly quiet. My computer is right next to me at ear level and it is barely audible under load. No need to use headphones.
For those that can't fit the NH-D15, this is a great alternative and I absolutely recommend it.

- Reviewed in Canada on January 30, 2024Verified PurchaseI HIGHLY RECOMEND this noctua nh-d12L over the other giant noctua nh-d15.The nh-d15 is SILLY BIG AND TOO HEAVY, actually had to wedge it in tight pressing on my video card! (the nh-d15). HOWEVER THIS ONE FIT LIKE A GLOVE, nice install, cools very very well . So if your looking for a good cpu air cooler and want alot of cooling and a sensible fit, the nh-d12L one may be what your looking for. Also it fit in the case nicely and could put the cover on. Used on a core i7-10700kf and temps dropped over 25C on cinebench on a full load 100% cpu stress test for over ten mins averaging max 72c. The stock cooler failed the same cinebench stress test and thermal throttled at 100C. 5 stars.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 22, 2025Verified PurchaseI needed a CPU cooler for a new Core Ultra 265K build in a compact case. I didn't want an AIO, but being concerned about possible heat if I OC'd the cooler had to be effective. I initially tried a 'Be Silent' model but returned it because it was too large. Noctua has an excellent reputation, so the 12L seemed like a good choice. In fact the Noctua website rated it excellent for my CPU. I have not been disappointed. That said, I have not had reason to do more than turn on boost, but temperatures are in the 40- 50C range. Build quality is excellent. Instructions were excellent. Parts were included for both AMD and Intel CPUs, including thermal paste and a screwdriver. install was straightforward. There were even parts to attach an optional 2nd (Noctua) fan (ordered separately) if additional cooling is required -- which isn't so far. The unit is almost totally silent. I highly recommend. Fiinally, 鶹 delivered in 3 days, while the major company I bought the too large cooler from would have taken at least 3 weeks because it would ship from Hong Kong.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 7, 2022Verified PurchaseMy case does not have enough clearance for most of the coolers so this one was perfect. Besides it fitting my case it has the super quiet Noctua fan ... you literally have to look to see if the fan is spinning to tell it's on.
You can also add an additional fan if needed but I doubt you will need to do that.
A bit on the expensive side but definitely well worth the investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps My 5900X In Check & Is Silent Too
Verified PurchaseI've been a fan of Noctua for over a decade, and I've had an NH-D14, an NH-D9L and now an NH-D12L. I've also got NF-P12 case fans that I've had for over a decade and they're still going strong.
I was a bit dubious about this one because when my NF-P12's are running at 100% I can just about hear them, and that's at 1300 RPM. So when I looked at this and found out it ran at 2000 RPM when under load, I thought it might be a bit noisy and I may have to adjust the fan curve in the BIOS, because having a silent or near silent PC is very important to me.
I should have known really, it's Noctua. This cooler runs silent at 2000 RPM and keeps my 5900X well in check. I have my 5900X undervolted using the curve optimizer with a setting of -17. I also set the thermal throttle limit to 74C, because I'm not having it that 90C for this CPU is fine, no matter what AMD say.
For core heavy workloads I get around 4.3GHz all core which is what a 5900X should do, and in gaming where only a few cores are used, it fluctuates somewhere between 4.8GHz and 4.95GHz, which again is what a 5900X should do.
All this with the CPU not exceeding 75C and the PC being silent.
The only downside is cost, you pay for Noctua, but you are paying for quality engineering that applies to both the heatsink and the fan. It's just like buying an Aston Martin, you know you are going to pay for it, but you also know you are getting a top quality product.
I don't mind paying for Noctua products, but Noctua prices aren't everybody's cup of tea.
Noctua customer service is top notch as well. For example, in 2021 I'd had my NH-D14 for a decade and wanted to use it on my 5900X. Noctua sent me the AM4 mounting kit for free. So I could use my NH-D14 on my new rig, which I have done until now. The NH-D14 is quite cumbersome though and I'm glad I replaced it with this. I can now access the first M.2 slot without removing the cooler, and my GPU is now a lot easier to remove when I want to clean it. This NH-D12L also outperforms the NH-D14 and is silent under load, whereas the NH-D14 is quiet under load but not silent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective, silent and classy.
Verified PurchaseNothing to say -that hasn't been already said- about the performance of these great coolers, except that
even in the brown and beige color theme, these coolers stand out and still manage to look classy.
