You also need some trial and error to figure out the timing. The light only shows when the iron is at the set temperature. It's very easy to clean compared to a standard waffle iron, but you still need to get into the cracks with something that's not going to scratch the plates.

I have made regular belgian waffles and chocolate waffles served with ice cream. Caution: the top of the waffle iron does get hot, so just use the handle!
