From the manufacturer

Every angle is its best angle.
Outstanding NIKKOR Z optics deliver beautiful high-resolution, high-contrast images and videos across the entire zoom range. ED glass significantly reduces axial chromatic aberration and minimizes color bleeding across the entire frame.

The perfect travel companion.
Be There. In the Moment. Fully Aware. Clear Vision.
Less to carry. More to see.

The world's a big place—far too big to be left to the imagination. The NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR is a lens that can explore it all with you. Go from detailed wide angle landscapes to lively street scenes to telephoto close-ups with beautifully blurred backgrounds, even macro-style shots, all with a single lightweight DX-format lens that delivers outstanding image quality shot after shot.

Take it everywhere.
Despite its big zoom range, the NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR is a lightweight, compact do-it-all lens that's great for travel, events or just shooting on the go.

VR keeps it steady.
5.0 stops of built-in VR* image stabilization counteracts hand-held camera shake for steadier videos and sharper photos. It also lets you shoot stills at slower shutter speeds without causing motion blur. *Measured in accordance with CIPA standards when the lens is used with a DX-format camera and the camera’s VR mode is set to [Normal]. Measured at the maximum telephoto position.

Close focusing for macro-style shots.
Get as close as 7.9 inches* from your subject and fill the frame with macro-style details at a large 0.33x reproduction ratio. This is great for tabletop shots and food photography, where you can't exactly back up. *Distance from the front surface of the lens to the focus position. At wide-angle position.

Outstanding for video.
Make smooth iris transitions and exposure adjustments thanks to an electromagnetic diaphragm. The ultra-quiet stepping motor prevents focus drive sounds from being captured on video, and focus breathing is greatly suppressed.
Built to be ready for all situations.
Dust and drip resistant.
The lens barrel and all moving parts are designed carefully considering dust- and drip-resistant performance with sealing that prevents dust and water droplets from entering the lens.* *The lens is not guaranteed to be dust- and drip-resistant in all situations and under all conditions.
Compact. Lightweight.
At just 315 grams and 3.6 inches collapsed, the NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR is ideal for travel or just an everyday, do-it-all walkaround lens.
Customizable control.
The smooth click-less control ring can be customized for the way you shoot. Use it for precise manual focusing or to adjust aperture, ISO or exposure compensation.

- Reviewed in Canada on May 5, 2025Verified PurchaseMy FAVOURITE lens for my Nikon Z50 mirrorless. It's fast, it's nice it, not too heavy. I rarely use my kit 16-50, 50-250, or 50 prime anymore as it's good enough as my every day use.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 7, 2022Verified PurchaseThis lens provides great image quality, equal to or better than my other Nikon lenses. After owning a Sigma 10-24 mm lens, I decided to stick with Nikon.
The lens focuses very quickly and quietly. It operates smoothly for an all-plastic lens.
I do not like that it has a plastic lens mount, which presumably will not last as many mount-dismount cycles compared to a metal mount. However, unless used by a professional who keeps changing lenses frequently, this should not be a concern.
It is expensive, but what is the alternative? It is much lighter and performs much better than AF-S DX 55-200 mm lens with FTZ adapter that I was using before.
Unfortunately it does not come with a lens hood. You have to pay extra for it.
- Reviewed in Canada on September 29, 2023Verified PurchaseFor the price, the image quality is good. But beyond 50mm, the lens slow/dark very quickly and I find it difficult to use in poor lighting situations. eg: sky high ISO and unreliable continuous AF... It's especially bad when using AF-C to track fast subjects in low light conditions. I had many out of focus shots because of that.
I'm waiting for Sigma / Tamron to do port their f2.8 lens such as :18-50 or 17-70 to the z mount.
I returned the lens and now waiting for my refund.
- Reviewed in Canada on July 26, 2023Verified PurchaseLight weight, good for travel. But it is better with a 16-200mm zoom.
- Reviewed in Canada on December 5, 2022Verified Purchasesuper
- Reviewed in Canada on December 17, 2023Verified PurchaseWell built, easy to rotate the zoom, includes VR stabilized lens, I think the image quality is fine especially at the middle f-stops. I like its compact size but long zoom range equal to FF at 27-210mm which on this DX lens is 18-140mm, so it is about a 7.8x zoom. I have a z30 so when I bought this lens with the body I had extra savings. Recommended lens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nikon’s all-plastic fantasy
Verified PurchaseFor its steep price, Nikon seems to have developed this lens with cost-saving in mind. Built in Thailand, it has high starting apertures, comes with a plastic mount and plastic everything else. Also, moving the focus ring requires quite a bit of unnecessary effort. But otherwise it takes good sharp pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really fun lens for my ZFC
Verified PurchaseI bought my ZFC a few months ago, and have enjoyed it. Nice upgrade from my old DSLR's. I had the 16-50 kit lens, and bought the 24mm 1.7. I missed having some zoom so I looked at the 50-250, but realized I bounce between focal lengths so much when I shoot that I'd be constantly swapping. So I opted for this 18-140, and I'm really happy I did.
Combined with the ZFC, this lens is a joy to use. It looks as good as the kit lens at the wide end, and at the long end the 6.3 is quite acceptable with the ZFC's better ISO capability. A professional might nitpick, but I'm not. It focuses fast, I find 140mm long enough for my purposes, and the lens is fairly small and light for what it is, a plus with the ZFC. It's been prettymuch glued to the camera since I got it. I'll keep the other lenses for when I want wider/better aperture, but this one is going to handle 90% of my shooting. If you're looking for that perfect DX travel/walk-around lens for your z-mount, this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lens
Verified PurchaseI just made the change to mirrorless digital cameras and have been purchasing new lenses. The mirrorless lenses are excellent. I find them very sharp and clear. They capture beautiful images with impressive detail. To my eye, they out perform the DSLR lenses. They are considerably lighter and much simpler. The camera’s autofocus and image stabilization system works very well with the lens. I’m not a professional, but an enthusiastic amateur who’s been using Nikon cameras and lenses for 20+ years. I’m impressed and very satisfied with my latest additions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good walk around lens for the Nikon Z50
Verified PurchaseOverall, I like this lens. It offers better than average optical quality and a good zoom range for single lens use. While the optics are good, the lens does display some distortion, particularly at the widest zoom setting. The lens construction is plastic so it isn't heavy duty, but in my opinion, the lightweight construction is what makes it perfect for use with the Z50. After lugging around heavy cameras and lenses for years, I appreciate the photo quality I get from this lightweight camera system.
