- Reviewed in Canada on January 2, 2014Verified PurchaseThe lens came way ahead of schedule on the 23rd just in time for me to use it for christmas! It wasn't supposed to get to me until the 27th-4th. And to think I was worried about missing it when I went back to university! This is a good price for the lens, best that I could find including shipping. Zooms very well, great for people who have a camera with little to no zoom on their lens. This one complemented my included lens very well starting just where mine left off. The cover is good quality and it's a little difficult to put on the lens hood if you do the way the recommend. I recommend looking in to the lens and seeing how the plastic fits together not trying to line up the dots. Great surprise that it came with a focus ring for manual mode, a great plus when you want to focus on something that your camera won't autofocus on. Seems to be good quality I took it outside in -30 for a couple minutes and it worked perfectly. Seems to be good quality and fit well on my Nikon 5100
- Reviewed in Canada on November 5, 2024Verified PurchaseYou would never know that the product was previously used. Looks brand new barely a mark on it. Arrived quicker than promised and nicely wrapped. Will take a few photos on the weekend to try it out. Very happy with my new to me lense.
- Reviewed in Canada on December 10, 2012Verified PurchaseFitted to my Nikon D-3200, this lens functioned as advertised. I was not impressed overly with the plastic parts as my older Nikon lenses were all machined metal, however it is a lighter weight and easier to hold for extended periods. A few indoor photos of our sleeping miniature pincher showed good detail in individual facial hairs without supplemental flash. A few long range shots with the lens extended to 200 mm showed good detail when examined on the computer and enlarged considerably before printing. I would recommend this lens to anyone with a compatible camera body using AP-S format. It is inexpensive when compared to similar optics available and does a good job all around. It would almost fill the bill for a walk about lens, though something wider than 55 mm at the bottom end would be a good investment.
A very good product for my needs.
- Reviewed in Canada on June 24, 2016Verified PurchaseOverall this is a great lens and may take getting used to if you have never used anything but the 18-55 especially in Macro mode! Performance is as expected from a Nikkor lens even on shots that would generally get motion blur you get a sharp image at full zoom! The moon shot was taken at full zoom with VR on something that would be very difficult to get without a tripod on and non VR lens at the shutter speed and aperture used for the shot, was shot at 1/30, f5.6! This is a good budget lens for sports or nature but the 18-300mm would be better due to better zoom capabilities for both sports and Wildlife but it makes a great general purpose lens And I would recommend this lens!

5.0 out of 5 stars ¨¹berragendes P/L-Verh?ltnis, wunderbare Aufwertung alter SLR (zB D40)

5.0 out of 5 stars A keen home photographers review
Verified PurchaseI've had this lens for just over a year now and feel able to comment after a fair bit of use on the Nikon D90 and 3000.
The Nikkon 55-200mm is an entry level telephoto type lens that has auto focus and vibration reduction capabilities. It compliments the 18-55mm kit lens on the D3000 nicely and is ideal for portrait, wildlife and sports photography plus day to day use at the lower end. The build quality of this lens is definitely reflected in the cheap price but don't let that put you off as it is adequate enough as long as you look after it. When zooming in and out the movement is smooth with no creaks or juddering. On a big plus side its quite light in weight which when walking around (Hill walking/climbing) for upto eight hours makes a big difference. I've had brilliant shots from Derbyshire, The Lakes and Snowdonia. The vibration reduction feature is brilliant in my experience. At full zoom it really comes into its own and there is a very noticeable difference with it on, far better quality pictures optically and clarity is excellent. You will notice that as you half press the shutter release your image will suddenly stabilize, great stuff. There is some softness and fringing at the edges at 200mm but. . .more often than not your subject will be central at full zoom therefore this won't be a problem!
Standing approx 1metre away and at full zoom you can get some cracking macro shots with detail. I've taken some great shots of butterflies, bees and other insects/flowers during the summer. This is also a great portrait lens. Stand back, full zoom with a wide aperture and you get a sharp subject with a nicely blurred background. I took this kind of shot of each person (with my partner) at my partner's 50th a few months ago to make a montage. Even cropped they're sharp which is down to the VR function when on full zoom. I've sent quite a few copies out and they were all very impressed thankfully! I whizzed around each person like lightening and this lens was a pleasure to use.
So, yes I really like this lens! At this affordable price (compared to the 70-300mm) you're getting great functionality as an avid home photographer. Like for like its not 'that' different to the 300mm except in build quality and of course zoom! With a great auto focus and vibration reduction, lightweight too you can't go wrong in my opinion.
If you're happy with the 18-55mm and 18-105mm kit lenses on the D3000 and D90 then I'd definitely go for this.
Highly recommended.
If. . .you're thinking of astronomical photography (connecting this to a telescope) I'd go for the 70-300mm!
Hope this helps, good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Estupendo objetivo

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this camera.
Verified PurchaseOkay hold on, there is a story to this purchase.
I bought this lens because I volunteer with a group of HS girls basketball players.
These girls, while amazing, are still girls and have insecurities. I got to learn what angles they like with this camera and I also had them give it a try. This camera captured the best moments, and it meant the world to the seniors and their parents. While this school does hire professional photographers, all the girls annd parents agreed that my pictures were so much better because of this lense. It was so affordable, amazing quality, the autofocus on it was out of this world. It was fast. Great look and clarity to all the photos. I even trusted them to take their own pictures. This functionality this lense provide gave these girls amazing photos. For weeks after the season was over they posted these photos to all their social medias and the parents did too.
This isn¡¯t just a camera lense, it¡¯s a memory frozen in time so that they can look back and enjoy for the rest of their life.
This lens brought out the photographer in a lot of these basketball girls and captured the most wonderful senior night photos.
If you¡¯re contemplating getting it, just do it. The price is great, but overall the memories are priceless.
