- Reviewed in Canada on April 15, 2025Verified PurchaseMy go to walk around lens. It isn't quite as sharp as the 24-200 Z lens, but I find it still is more versatile for my needs.
I've had this since August 2024. As I said, its the main lens I use now.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 1, 2024Verified Purchasei have a chipmunk that lives in my yard and i can never get close enough to take the perfect picture. well today i sat outside at the chipmunk hole waiting for him to pop out and sure enough he was curious and poked his little nose out and i even got some of his face. the quality is stellar. greatest investment i have ever made. i am so happy i won't need to buy all the different types of lenses with all the range i get with this bad boy.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 14, 2024Verified PurchaseI am VERY Happy with the image quality throughout the whole zoom range (It exceeded my expectations) The "BUT" is it suffers from Lens Creep (It Zooms out on its own while walking - I feel it still should get a 5-Star review, but keep this in mind) The images were taken with a Nikon Z8 from 28mm to 400mm.

- Reviewed in Canada on June 7, 2024Verified PurchaseI was hesitant to buy this lens, since most of the lenses which such a wide range, do not deliver quality sharp enough images.
The 28-400mm range is absolutely amazing to work with. The quality of the images are very good and I cannot think of a better “one-lens” for travel than this.
Well done Nikon!

- Reviewed in Canada on December 1, 2024I tried my Friends 28-400mm on my Z9, and found it to be Sharp. The AF worked well, in relatively decent Light, but did tend to hunt or hang up in very dim light. The VR, appeared to work almost Flawlessly. A much better Lens than the F Mount 28-300mm.
Update: I ordered One, and it arrived in not the Best of Condition. The Idiots who packed it didn't put any Packing Material in the shipping Carton with the Lens, in a Carton considerably larger. When I opened the shipping box, I found the Lens Box open and the contents spilled out. I suspect this had been a Returned Item, and resold, as I found dust and dirt on the Lens. I tried it out, and this one behave a lot differently than my friends. If focused, and then zoomed in, the image goes out of Focus and several seconds are lost as focus is reacquired. Have never had a Zoom behave like this.
Now 鶹 is demanding a Government ID for a Refund, WTF, they didn't want it when I ordered it. 鶹 can go Copulate itself

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Lens for Traveling
Verified PurchaseI got this lens for traveling because of its weight, telephoto zoom range, and its price. I was using a Nikon Z9 and traveling in Mexico and got some great daytime pictures of Birds in Flight diving in the shallows for fish. I also used it indoors in Japan for a Sumu Wrestling competition. I got some exceptional pictures using ambient light from about 30 yards away. It also worked extremely well for daylight landscape pictures. I highly recommend . It's extremely versatile and well built,

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lens for landscape
Verified PurchaseThis is a great lens for taking landscape photos and perhaps even for zooming in on a “surprise” bird or animal on the side of the road. I usually use long lenses on my birding trips but sometimes you end up being just a little too close. I’ve set down my long lens several times throughout the years in order to grab my 28-300 SLR lens for a Trumpeter Swan, Sandhill Crane or deer near the road and this Nikon Mirrorless lens will be used the same way. One extra plus is that it is much smaller and lighter than the SLR lens so easier to pick up faster. So far I’ve only used it for landscape but migration season has only recently started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional value
Verified PurchaseI bought this lens wanting something I could use when traveling as I am tired of dragging a bag load of camera equipment through airport security.
There are three things about this lens that make it worthy of your consideration: first, the construction quality is very good and the lens fully extended has no movement that I can detect. Secondly, the sharpness of this lens across its range is very good optically. Finally, it is combined with a functional VR which pretty well assures that I can get printable photos. I purchased this intending to simplify my travel process; however, this lens has proven to be an exceptional buy in terms of image quality and value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Food all around and versatile lens
Verified PurchaseGood all around lens. This is my go to for daily hikes since it’s so versatile. Coupled with a Nikon Z5, ot has worked well. Only complaint is it’ll focus on something other than the target sometimes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Primary Travel Lens with My Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera
Verified PurchaseI bought this as a primary travel lens to use with my Nikon Z8 Mirrorless camera. I wanted something that had a large range for focal lengths so that I would not have to bring many lenses or carry them around while hiking and traveling. I took this lens with me to visit the national parks in Florida where wildlife was the primary viewing experience. Found the lens captured extremely sharp images while being very lightweight and easy to use and focus!
