Product description
Lighten your load. For those who chase impossible shots—birders, nature and wildlife photographers, aircraft, sports and action photographers—reach is key. But so is speed, nimbleness and being in the right spot. The Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x gives you the best of both worlds, doubling the reach of compatible Z lenses so you can bring shorter, lighter lenses into the field and still get the shot. Optimized for the compact mirrorless Z system, it retains 100% resolution, AF and VR functionality, minimum focusing distances and weather-sealing, all with superb rendering performance. 100% more reach. 100% resolution. The lightweight, compact Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x doubles the native reach of compatible lenses—without any loss of resolution and outstanding image quality. You might already be approximating this effect with in-camera cropping, but that cuts out over 50% of your image sensor's pixels. With the Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x, you can achieve those tight compositions with the full resolution of your sensor by shooting in the native image area of your camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic!!!!
Verified PurchaseI had the older 1.4x TC and was never really satisfied with it: wasn't sharp, created haloes kind of like my really 500 F/5 mirror nikkor. So I took a chance with this one for my 180-600 nikkor and Z9. I tested it right away, and the results were astounding. I shot some small birds on the powerlines near me at a variety of shutter speeds in both Fx & Dx modes--I could get reasonably sharp images at 600mm+2x
in Dx down to 1/250/sec!!!!!!!!!!!!! At that speed and magnification (effectively 1680mm), any loss of sharpness is likely to be the user more than the glass. Plus the Z9 has, what, 5 stops of stabilization? What a pairing! If I really wanted a higher quality image at that speed, I'd use a solid tripod. I haven't noticed any haloing etc. I am super happy with this and carry it with me everywhere. If only it were built into the 180-600, that would solve all my problems!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's A Nikon
Verified PurchaseYes, it's a Nikon. Of course, it's great. Is it cheap? Well, much cheaper than one night in an average Ritz-Carlton and you will still like it the next morning. Definitely great value for money, 鶹 shipping was fast. However, I have to mention a few things: (1) don't even dream of using it with an ftz adapter, (2) you won't be able to use it with all Nikon Z lenses. Don't rely on the product page, make sure to check Nikon's Web site. They have a full list of compatible lenses (the list is not very long .... ), (3) don't forget the depth-of-field issue, and (4) strangely enough it slows down AF a little bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does Its Job
Verified PurchaseA few of these became available on 鶹 and I was lucky enough to procure one. I had been waiting to get one to use use with my Z 70-200 lens that was also bought during a rare window of opportunity (all of these delays in Nikon product availability sure get old, btw). Anyway, I have now used the 2x teleconverter for a couple months. It does indeed double the strength of the lens. It seriously reduces light sensitivity, as expected. It is usable pretty much in bright daylight only. It has improved my long-distance photos. There is no apparent loss in image acuity, color accuracy, or autofocus - the base capability of the lens is not impaired in those areas. Autofocus does become more difficult, as with any high power lens. Getting the focus at the exact right spot often requires manual intervention, but this is to be expected. It does of course add to the size and bulk of the camera and is one more thing to lug around. Still, 鶹 delivered it a day early, it works as advertised, and I do not regret the purchase. Two cons. As with many other reviewers, my tele was shipped in an envelope and the lenses' cardboard box was partially squished. No harm to the lens, but I think pretty much everyone hangs onto the boxes to facilitate later resale so the damage to the box is an actual concern. I got another shipment from 鶹 a few days before that was about the same size, cheap, and indestructible - it was shipped in a cardboard box. Other complaint, $600 seems pretty high for a metal tube with one lens element and some electronics. I know this is just what this equipment costs, but seriously there is not much to this particular product. In summary, this 2x teleconverter performs as advertised and has met my expectations and despite the high cost and issue with shipping I am giving it a 5 star rating.
