Street Ready
When not in use, the NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 retracts into itself and is just 51mm long. It's wonderfully balanced on Z series cameras and is also extensively weather sealed against dust and moisture, making it ideal as a walk around, do-anything lens.
Edge-to-Edge Brightness
Taking advantage of the Z mount, the NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3's large rear element delivers ample light all the way to the edges of a full frame sensor. This makes for bright, even images with exceptional sharpness.
Near Silent
The NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 uses a fast, quiet stepping motor for autofocusing and diaphragm control, ensuring camera noises never disturb a moment or ruin a video.
Get Close
Get as close as 13.7 inches from your subject at any zoom position — great for tabletop photography.

Do you grab this for a birthday or Wedding shoot? NO! Do you grab it for for portraits or professional shoots with off camera flash? NO! But if you want to shoot video, or travel super light. This lens is great. This is the era of hybrid shooting. To me, this is Nikons small Gimbal video lens. You can put this lens + Z6 on the CRANE M2! That gimbal is tiny. 4k is only ~8mp --so it has plenty of resolution for 4k video. Plenty of subject separation at F4 on full frame video. Dont get me wrong, pics are ok. Far better than phone, but if you own the 70-200z , Z 85mm/1.8 or the Z 50mm/1.8, you become very spoiled with getting "wow' photos. You will find this lens inferior to those to for photos.

When I was younger, I traveled with several roles of film, multiple lenses, and my SLR. That morphed into a DSLR and now a mirrorless Nikon camera. Some of my best photos were taken with my Contax G2 and a 50mm lens. My wife and I are traveling to Egypt for a Nile Cruise and my native lenses are fast 2.8 or faster so they are large - my favorite being the 24-70mm F2.8.
On this trip I wanted to go a bit lighter so I pulled out an old Z6 and mounted this 24-50mm on the camera. I'm sure there will be times when I wish I had the faster lens, but this compact size and low cost will ensure I've got a great camera with me throughout the journey. It is about the size of my Contax!
Nikon has produced a very interesting lens for individuals looking for something simple that covers those focal lengths most used in everyday shooting. The images are good and the lens itself works very well. I didn't give it the top most rating because: 1) the apertures are slow, and, 2) it looks and feels pretty plasticky. Nikon could have made the lens less compact while still making it compact enough for every day use-that could have allowed the lens to have faster apertures, while making it more versatile to use. How to solve the plastic look? Don't know, but they could have looked to the past with dslr lenses for guidance.. A number of those lenses were compact and collapsed like this does, and, at the same time, looking, and feeling , "unplasticky". Overall, it's a good lens that I enjoy using, and recommend to to anyone looking to purchase it.
