I made a lab coat for my son for science class, and even the patches turned out amazing! Just like store bought quality...maybe even better! Even my teenage son thinks it looks store bought!     I would not say they are for a beginner - I need to rethread the needle after cuts within the same colour more often than other thread I use. At least you need to know or to someone to show you how to use your machine, what to do then the thread breaks, or unthreads.
    I can easily see the value though - they are half the price for the same quantity as Gamut thread (popular here in Canada), and 1/3 of Madeira Rayon. With smaller spools you get decent amount of thread for even cheaper, which is good if you do not embroider often. I see there are replacement spools available, but in Canada they do not seem cheap to order.
