From the manufacturer

Easy to carry. Fun to shoot.
The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 is an ultra-compact prime you can rely on with any Z camera in just about any situation. Its wide enough for street work, landscapes and interiors but tight enough for authentic portraits and candid shots. It has a fast f/2 maximum aperture that powers through low lighting, helps freeze fast action and separates your subject from the background with a beautiful bokeh effect. And it does all of this with clarity, consistency and brightness that's all Z.

Outstanding Optical Quality
Dramatic depth.
Make your subject stand out against a beautifully blurred background. The shallow depth of field of f/2 is enhanced by the lens' 9 rounded blade diaphragm, creating a natural bokeh effect.
Get in close.
The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 rewards you for getting in close to your subject. The lens' beautiful bokeh is accentuated at closer distances, giving your subject almost three-dimensional separation.
Shoot after hours.
The larger Z mount draws even more light gathering performance from the wide f/2 aperture. Capture the mood of dimly lit situations with clarity and sharpness, and use faster shutter speeds to freeze action without sacrificing brightness.
Z NIKKOR Technology
Fast, confident focus.
When it comes to autofocus, the NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 is the strong, silent type. A new high-torque stepping motor operates at blazing fast speeds in near silence, whether using Eye-Detection AF or continuous subject tracking.
Customizable control.
The smooth click-less control ring can be customized for the way you shoot. Use it for precise manual focusing or to adjust aperture, ISO or exposure compensation.
Dust and drip resistant.
The lens barrel and all moving parts are designed carefully considering dust- and drip-resistant performance with sealing that prevents dust and water droplets from entering the lens.* * The lens is not guaranteed to be dust- and drip-resistant in all situations and under all conditions.
Video savvy.
The NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2's quiet autofocus system greatly suppresses focus breathing to prevent angle-of-view shifts during recording. Make smooth iris adjustments with the click-less control ring to create a natural shift in brightness.

- Reviewed in Canada on September 29, 2024Verified PurchaseI am just getting back into photography and use this lens for close macro work. Also for slide copying.
Love this lens in how easy it is to use, but did have to sit down with it on my camera and play with it enough to get used to it.
Used with the Nikon Z30

- Reviewed in Canada on January 17, 2023Verified PurchaseThis lens is a great little lens for me. I'm a novice but the results are awesome. Nice bokeh. 4K video is really nice and the autofocus is extremely quiet. I think this is great bang for the buck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic lens for the price.
Verified PurchaseThis lens has become my "daily driver." It's a great focal length for every day photography. The size and weight are great just for walking around and exploring. The lens is plenty sharp, but I'm not zooming in to 400% to determine a picture's worth. Overall, I have no complaints about this lens.
I bought this with the expectation that this would be more of a limited-time lens. However, this is on my Z8 about 80% of the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal relación Costo/Beneficio
