This fan seems very well built. I have been using it for about 2 weeks now. The rubber corners are a nice touch. I have 2 silent 120mm case fans and I cannot hear the Noctua fan over them. I am using it on a CPU heatsink with PWM function so I don't expect that I will ever hear it over the other fans in my system. I tried putting it on full speed to see what the sound is like and that is the only time I can hear the fan noise but it is more like wind noise than motor hum. I have it running at around 1000 rpm during normal use and I can't hear it at all. It probably never goes over 1300 rpm in my system and I still can't hear it. The additional 7 Volt cable and 4 pin splitter came in handy to reduce the speed of one of my case fans to 1000 rmp and add both my case fans to the mobo since I only have one plug for case fans. I didn't need them for the Noctua since I'm using PWM function. I used this fan to replace a Cooler Master Blade Master fan that was dying on my CPU heatsink. The Noctua is double the price of the Blade Master but I'm hoping that it lasts longer. The Blade Master started to make noise after only about 1 year, but as long as I kept the speed low it did OK for the next 2 years. Now, no matter what speed, it will make noise for the first 10 min or so and then quiet down so I didn't trust it anymore. Noctua's 6 year warranty and reputation gives me confidence that this will not die so quickly. Highly recommend and time will tell about the durability but if it starts to die at least I have the warranty right?
