Pros:

The NEEWER TP53 tripod has decent quality. It is a metal and plastic travel stand for cell phones and cameras, designed for filming and video recording. A plastic phone clip makes it compatible with most cell phones. There is no cold shoe mount though.

It feels sturdier than other tripods of this size. When tested, the tripod showed very little wobble without using the head extension. The square-shaped metal legs and extension contribute to its stability. Connecting bars between the legs also help keep the structure firm during use. It also features a hook on the bottom of the main shaft for you to hang a weight or your camera bag, further increasing its stability.

There is no traditional crank-up mechanism, which reduces head movement. Thumb screws are easy to operate and hold securely. The quick-release plate mechanism includes a spring-loaded lever but cannot be locked open.

Its 47-inch height allows for general shooting and full-length portraits. The included plastic phone clip works well and adds to the versatility. The carrying bag is minimal but gets the job done.

Overall, this is the most stable lightweight tripod I have tested in this price range. I am happy with the order.

This is a decent basic and entry-level tripod for cell phone/tablet (or whatever you wanna use it with) that seems reasonably well-constructed and for the most part works just fine without issues (for now). It's made of aluminum alloy and plastic as most of these basic tripods are out there; nothing fancy here. Similar to most of these budget (relatively speaking here) tripods, while it does work just fine without issues, some of its features are borderline functional or nonfunctional depending upon your philosophical bent.

For instance, it can be difficult to properly adjust the correct tension for horizontal rotation valve (not sure if it's a design issue or if it's just the one I got) and because all of the joints and mechanical parts are plastic, I'm afraid to break something if I turn it too much/tightly. Once it's locked in place, it can still rotate quite/move a bit by either direction, which is annoying at test.

It can also be difficult to make precise adjustments for tilt/pitch with the handle because the plastic mechanism is just rudimentary and crude. The same thing can be said for the height/telescopic adjustment for the center column due to the fact that (again) it's all plastic and it's often either too tight or too loose for finer adjustments. Again, because it's all plastic, I'm afraid to break the whole thing if the tension is too high.

In addition, the last section of the legs is somewhat flimsy and a bit wobbly, and they don't appear to be strong or stable enough especially when it's used outside or any surface where it's not sufficiently leveled or flat. The fixed feet with a rather small piece of semi-soft rubber that don't tilt according to the slope of the surface and it doesn't seem to be able to provide much grip on certain surface types. It also lacks a carrying handle with foam grip which makes it somewhat inconvenient to be carried around on its own.

That said, most of the issues that I've encountered aren't unique for this particular tripod since as it IS a basic and entry level tripod. It's fairly lightweight and it does have a maximum height of roughly 140 cm, which is decent because a few others that I've tried are just too old (i.e. < 120 cm) for my needs. It claims to be able to support a maximum load of 1.5 kg/3.3 lb but that's unverified although I think it'd be just fine when used indoor.

Regardless, it's more than sufficient for cell phones or small/compact digital cameras since most of those issues described above are less of a concern with lighter payload. This tripod probably would not be suitable for DSLR cameras that are significantly heavier and certainly NOT for cameras with longer and heavier lenses. As part of the tests, I tried it with a Nikon camera with a 120mm lens (which isn't considered large), and it just didn't seem stable enough for my liking.

All things considered, it's a decent basic/entry level tripod that's reasonably well-constructed and for the most part works just fine without issues. It's designed for light, casual, and recreational use with cell phones and small/compact digital cameras especially if it's indoors with flat surface (and a much less windy environment). Similar to most other budget tripods, most of controls are finicky since they're all plastic and certain amount of patience might be required especially to make finer adjustments.

However, it's fairly lightweight and comes with a carrying bag (I think all of 'em do anyway) and the size/height is just right as a [almost] full sized tripod for cell phones/compact digital cameras (many others are only about ¾ the height as this). It's reasonably priced at $33 for what it provides and its overall build quality, usability, features, versatility, and performance. Your mileage might vary.

As it said, this is a beginner's item. Good pricing, serviceable, with all the basics that a beginner would want and enough to get you started. In fact, I'd call it a bit better than a beginner's item. It's lightweight, quite a bit lighter than the one I used to have, and folds together smaller too. It'll be very convenient for bringing on trips where there's a lot of carrying and walking.

However, because it's so light, it by itself would not be enough to support a heavier camera. It's just enough to support a normal Nikon, but not if I switched it out for a longer lens. They do have a fix for this though, which I definitely appreciate. There's a hook on the base that allows you to attach a counter weight of some sort which would make it steady enough. I appreciate that since you can just use a backpack or a water bottle, just something heavy that you have on you already anyway for the trip, and don't have to carry around extra tripod weight.

It also comes with a phone holder attachment. It has no problem supporting a phone's weight for sure.

I am blown about by the quality and features of this so-called "Entry Level" tripod. The tripod legs are made of metal, where it counts the most, but most of the other parts of made of high quality plastic. The clips that hold the legs together are durable and allow for every shooting angle under the sun to get the shot you need. Up top, the tripod allows for panning, tilting, and rotating your camera or phone 90 degrees easily. I love that the kit included a cell phone holder, which is probably the most common use-case for a tripod like this. This kit is lightweight, yet sturdy at the same time, and while it does come with a carrying case, it's really not something I see myself using. Overall I'm really impressed at the quality and value of this tripod. I imagine it will fit 95% of peoples needs, and do it really well. Easy 5 stars.

I really like this universal phone, camera or ipad (with purchase of universal adapter) tripod. Its sturdy and very easy to set up. And for walking around attached to the outside of a backpack, its not bad to carry. But for walking around a city for leisure travel, its unfortunately kind of big. Light in weight, sure, but large in size, so not really convenient to carry.
