Cheap and easy solution for RV power monitoring
Installed both this one and the AC model in our RV to keep an eye on power consumption and battery health. Now with just a glance I can tell if we have good shore power, how much we’re using, and at which rate we’re depleting the battery for those times we’re without shore power. Haven’t compared the accuracy with other measuring tools. I installed just above the RV power panel which sits just above the floor, and the displays are a little hard to read from that angle; I need to kneel down to read the display, but I didn’t want to have to run wires all through the RV to find a better location, so that’s fine, not like I spend my entire time staring at that. It’s true that there’s very little overhanging bezel and if installed flush-mount the hole would have to be quite precise, but I didn’t want to cut any holes so I just double-sided taped the monitors on the wall. Overall very satisfied, would buy again.

    Installed easily but display is difficult to read unless you are directly in front of unit. I mounted ours lower down and can only read the digits if I crouch down to line up with the meter. Also the pushbutton to turn the backlight on and off is recessed so needs a "pen" point to operate. Not a big issue but would be nice to just be able to push directly. Everything else works well.

    It only tracks power/current in one direction. I wanted to know what was left in my battery, but this unit doesn't track charging current. It will happily tell you how much energy your solar panels have generated, or how much work your battery has done, but it won't give you any idea of what's left in the battery if you are charging the battery part of the time (e.g. when the sun is out). Other than that, it works fine. If it wasn't called a battery monitor, I wouldn't have anything to bitch about, and it would be 4 or 5 stars. I'll keep it and rewire it to measure the solar panel output ... but I'll have to buy something else to monitor the battery state of charge. : (

    I've got a few of these in my go boxes and RV.
    I love that they are simple, basic and just work. I also love that they have a watt hour use meter that can be reset to count again. A feature all shunts should have, but most don't. It's fairly accurate when measured against my Fluke 289 but off a few 10s of mV. It has higher resolution at 10mV and 10mA than most shunts.

    I wish it had "bi directional" readings so could read charge and discharge and I wish the shunt itself had holes in it to better mount. Lastly the 50A version is no longer available, but great for smaller installs.

    But even with the small draw backs this is a great shunt for the money. If you are wanting bi directional or SOC (which is never really accurate anyway) this may not be the shunt for you.

    This is the second one I've bought. The first one died after a few months - screen started flickering and was unreadable. That first one as a bayite but I think it is the same. It and this one both start flashing the display when the voltage reached 90Vdc. I've got it on a solar system monitoring the panels (supply) to battery (load). I've got four 12v panels in series. Each panel has a maximum open circuit voltage rating of 24.3V. The series string is thus 97.2 volts. So I need a meter that can read it!

    These fail to read at > 90volts.

    Buyer beware.

    So I bought this as an indicator for a 24 volt solar power system built into a tote. I found that it worked very well although as others have mentioned, it needs some sort of enclosure so I designed and 3D printed a suitable housing for the shunt. This worked great for me. One thing to keep in mind is that the quality of the wire connections to the shunt and the battery are really critical as far as accuracy. The shunt itself is only a few milliohms of resistance and the voltage drop across that is very small, so the slightest bit of extra resistance introduced by a substandard connection on one of the wires will completely throw the readings off. Use really good quality crimp ons and then solder the wires after they're crimped. If you do that and follow the installation instructions to the letter, there shouldn't be any issues with accuracy. I don't know about longevity at this point but for the price this is a really good meter.

    This meter does a good job for my purpose. I bought it to monitor the charging voltage and current for my ebike. You must hookup the wires per the instructions or you will not get a correct reading. I experimented with the hook up to see what would happen and it makes a difference. This meter does not actually monitor the current directly. It measures the voltage drop across the shunt and it is important that the shunt is the last part of the circuit per the instructions. I 3D printed a case to contain all of the wiring and it turned out to be a good tool for my needs.
