Helps loosen mucus in the lungs
The main active ingredient in Mucinex is Guaifenesin (600mg). Guaifenesin is an expectorant that helps thin and loosen mucus in the lungs, making it easier to cough up the mucus. I like natural remedies over pharmaceutical medications, but because severe side effects are very rare with Mucinex, I was willing to give this a try during a cold episode. The result was quite impressive to say the least. I found it easier to cough up my mucus and though that may sound gross, coughing up mucus is what helps you get better by getting rid of the bacteria. Overall this medication does a superb job at what it's intended to do, and made me feel better.
