    I've been buying Mr. Coffee Latte machines for twenty years. They have all worked fine, but all have lasted about 2 years. Maybe 2 and 1/2. The good news is that this one seems more solid than in the past. Time will tell. When it breaks, I'll post an update.

    If you know what "crema" is then you most certainly won't be interested in this espresso maker. But if you're just starting out and want an inexpensive alternative to $6 lattes and mochas from Sbux, then this might be quite good for you. I've enjoyed using this for espresso, lattes, cappuccinos and mochas for the last 4 years. The steam wand works perfectly for steaming milk. The espresso is "ok to mediocre" even for those with less than critical taste buds. At sub-$60, this can be a great starter kit to making your own espresso based drinks.

    I highly recommend limiting your espresso grounds purchases to cheaper brands like Cafe La Llave. Don't waste your time buying coffee beans or coffee grounds with a recent harvest dates. This machine won't produce any more crema with those than the cheaper grounds. At best it will produce espresso with a bit of crema that layers on the top and occasionally will accomplish a half serving of crema. You'll definitely notice the difference in taste and texture when drinking. Sometimes you'll have excellent drinks while others only so-so satisfaction. It will always be hit and miss.

    The advantage is that you'll get excellent experience in your espresso making journey for a very cheap cost while still enjoying a morning brew every day. Clean-up is a breeze. Just make sure that if you use the wand to steam milk that you keep a very moist towel handy to remove the milk residue before it crusts on the wand. You'll want to take special care in cleaning the wand thoroughly before next use. Wiping the wand quickly after steaming means overall cleaning will be easier. DO NOT WASH ANY PARTS IN DISHWASHER. I made the mistake of washing the portafilter in the dishwasher. The coating on the portafilter washed off and left a dull metal color that leaves a colored residue on skin and anything it touches.

    Heat milk to about 112 degrees if you have a thermometer. If not, just keep your fingers on the bottom of whatever container you're using to steam the milk. Your fingers should feel the heat to the point where you notice it's hot. Once you notice that it's hot then you've reached the correct temperature and should stop steaming the milk. Over steaming will rob the milk of its flavor and in turn rob your coffee drink of any pleasurable flavor. You'll learn along the way the best methods for steaming milk. Feel free to use Youtube to find the best methods.
