Great but not perfect, then why did I give it 5 stars? I've used another model of Mopeka sensor on my propane tanks, and love it, just don't try to get them to work on propane tanks that already have a gauge on them, the float messes with the sensor.

I used these on the fresh water tank, the black water tank and the grey water tanks on my RV. The factory tank sensors that come with RV's are pretty much useless, but having great satisfaction with the propane sensors I thought I'd try these. Note: this is not a recommended application for these sensors, I took it upon myself to try these at me risk. That said, they are not "instant" reading like the gas gauge in your car, it seems they need to monitor readings over an hour or so before they give you a reading, you will likely see "empty" if the levels are or have changed just a few minutes ago. For example, will filling the fresh water, I know I've just put in about 50%, but the monitor says "empty", several minutes or an hour later it reads "50%". You can name each sensor as you with, but the icon remains a propane tank, but seeing as I can also read that still works for me. So, it gets 5 stars because it outperforms the factory monitors by miles, I can read the levels from anywhere near the trailer with my phone, up to a 100'.

It really needs to be proper attached to barrel, which is understandable. But the provided bracket is hard to use and breaks easily. It is simply not possible to mount the sensor properly with the provided bracket+tape. I will try to epoxy a custom bracket for this.

Quick delivery, I had to send it back (unopened ) due to not being able to place it under the water tank in boat, with that I also purchased the propane and it worked perfect, I can assume that this would also work well!

    Great product!

I had problems with the gauges that came with our high end travel trailer and looked to find a more versatile solution. I read about the Mopeka Pro Check Universal Sensor and decided to buy three for our water tanks. I had some challenges installing them due to the protective covers on the tanks but eventually was able to do it ( although much easier than accessing the existing sensors). I installed two and still need to get the third one installed onto the grey water tank. They are light years better than the existing sensors and I am very happy with the level of accuracy and easy of using them once they are installed. I would highly recommend these for plastic water tanks and have installed the magnetic version onto our two propane tanks. I can monitor all of them from my phone app which is simple and easy to set up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy cover PRONE to BREAK
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025
    Verified Purchase
This is an excellent tank sensor but the way to attach it to a tank is too fragile. It would be much more user friendly and practical if it would ship with the attachment ring (or “collar”) separated from its cover and the cover made with a more sturdy and flexible type of plastic. It seemed to be a well conceived feature. But it is neither adequately designed in detail nor manufactured from a carefully chosen material.

We had to order a replacement “collar” and cover for ~$14 because the sensor package included a ring already assembled with its cover. That important detail was missing from the accompanying instructions ! Those were mute about how to get the two pieces apart during installation. It was NOT at all easy to do!

There was no place, really, where to insert any tool for leverage. So, I tried to spread the parts apart carefully with my fingers. However, it became immediately clear that this required much pressure. I proceeded to gradually increase the pressure. But the cover broke apart instantly when I got it released from the first snap! Though it still fit over the glued down ring and the sensor, with all snaps catching properly, it was a rather loose fit.

For an off-road RV — even for one that’s not intended to drive over rugged, uncharted terrain -- this posed an unacceptable risk that the cover may be snagged and torn off, even wile merely crossing some tall grass or minor shrubbery!

Because the crack had occurred when the temperature was at about 34 degrees, I waited for a 59 degree afternoon to install this replacement, hoping the plastic would be more pliable and easier to handle. I followed Mopeka's illustration on 'removal of the cover for battery change', using a screw driver to remove the cover from the “collar” (the term used for this replacement part of what was called a “ring” in the complete sensor package).

Again, I was proceeding very slowly and carefully in increasing the pressure to disengage the parts, but this time the latch cracked on both sides before it came off the snap, and that latch broke off completely when I tried to push it back over a snap. I returned ther unusable spare part for a refund.

Instead of trying my luck again with another new cover, which was bound to be as flimsy as the original and the spare one, I used a steel wire to bridge the break in the circumference of the original cover and to securely keep it in place, which was possible because all its latches were still intact.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should not be advertised for RV water tanks; undocumented limitations, support not responding
Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2024
    Verified Purchase
Bought Mopeka Pro Check Universal sensor to monitor fresh water tank in RV. Results were less than ideal - at 40% fill, sensor showed 100% full, and when water tank was filled to 100% after 2 days of usage (~30-40% water used), sensor still showed 100%.

Drained water tank, and water level in the Mopeka app was bouncing all over the place - from 22% to 60%. Opened support case and after going back and forth for days, was told that the water tank must have at a minimum 1" of water for sensor to work at all. I don't see this info anywhere mentioned, not even in small print. RV tanks are only 5-6" deep, so when you reach 20% this sensor will no longer show your tanks are getting low. Provided bunch of troubleshooting information and finally support notified "I believe I may know what is happening" and that's when support stopped responding. Not even to requests - "should I return this sensor?", "will this sensor work with my RV fresh water tank?". No more responses from Mopeka support; they are no longer responding to tell me how to adjust settings nor to confirm if I should return as it is not going to work. Quite disappointing support experience. So unless you re trying to monitor tanks that will have at a minimum of 1" of water or more, these are not meant for your.

3.0 out of 5 stars PSA: No longer compatible with Cerbo GX
Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2023
    Verified Purchase
If you're like me and you're buying these because of their compatibility with Victron's Cerbo GX, know that Mopeka changed the communication protocol with the new Pro Check Universal, eliminating compatibility with the Cerbo. I'm so frustrated. I bought several of the Universal models because of the supposed improvements when I could have paid less for the Cerbo-compatible older models.

Cerbo compatibility aside, these Mopeka sensors do work well and add a new level of convenience to monitoring propane levels. No, I won't see the levels on my Cerbo's display but I can easily seem them using the Mopeka app. Nice—and much better than having to pop open the propane compartment.

    A few installation tips:

    — The process is very easy, however you will be asked to position the sensor so its position appears inside a little circle that shows in the Mopeka app. I've never seen anyone successfully do this, either in person or in a YouTube video. It seems like the best one can expect is for the position indicator to be touching the little circle. Don't sweat this. Everything will still work. I ended up using a ruler to position the sensor.

    — My least favorite thing about this product is the fact that there is nothing to hold it in the spot that you've so carefully measured out. The sensor has pretty powerful magnets to hold it to the tank, but once you lube it up with dielectric grease it will slide around on the tank's surface. Annoying. Mopeka does offer a collar that can be stuck on the bottom of your LPG tank with 3M VHB tape to lock the sensor into position. This is what I have done. (The company makes two different collars. Make sure you get the one for LPG tanks.)

    — These sensors come with three little aluminum spacers designed to clip to the bottom of your tank in order to provide extra clearance. You may or may not need them. I did. These spacers can come loose. I would suggest using an adhesive/sealant to lock them in place. Also, these will definitely scratch up whatever the tank is sitting on.

    — For those needing spacers but not wanting to scratch up their propane tank compartment, Mopeka offers the "Halo", a plastic ring that goes on the bottom of your tank. These will also need to be attached with an adhesive/sealant if you want them to stay on. Unfortunately, these Halos offer less additional clearance compared to the free aluminum spacers. If you choose to use the collar I mentioned earlier, the Halos probably won't work for you. They didn't for me. Seems like this is something that Mopeka should have been able to anticipate.

    — Keep in mind that these spacers protect your Pro Check sensor when it's sitting on a flat surface. The teenage kid filling your tank can still set the tank down on an uneven surface or a rock and crush it. And if this kid drags the tank on the ground and knocks off one of the spacers, the sensor could get damaged on a flat surface. Bottom line: pay attention when someone else is handling your LPG tank.

The only reason I've given this product 3 stars is because I want potential Cerbo owners to notice the compatibility issue. Otherwise, it is a 4-star product. And if the Mopeka Halos actually worked with the Mopeka collars, it would be a 5-star product. I still recommend these as the best solution for anyone with a propane tank they want to monitor.
