Product description
The Theremini is a re-imagination of one of the oldest electronic musical instruments, and synthesis pioneer Bob MOOG's first love: the theremin. Its design fuses the unique experience of playing an instrument you don’t actually touch. The Theremini guarantees immediate success to anyone at any skill level or physical ability, while also providing new ways to experiment with music, education, and gestural control.
The Theremini’s Pitch Correction system allows the Theremini to play the distinct notes and steps of a musical scale; 22 Scales are available, beginning on any of 12 Root notes. This Pitch Correction can be added in any amount, effectively changing the Theremini’s level of playing difficulty to match any performer’s skill.
The Theremini features a built-in speaker, plus a headphone jack for private rehearsal. Based on MOOG’s award-winning AniMOOG synthesizer, the internal sound engine offers 32 presets, each providing a distinctly different tonality, or timbre. In addition, an onboard stereo effects section is provided, adding lush trails or spaciousness to the overall sound of your Theremini.
From the manufacturer
Begin Your Theremin Journey Here
Ready to play right out of the box and equipped with 32 powerful Moog sounds, the Theremini is your gateway to the world of theremin music.
The Perfect Introduction
Start playing immediately with assistive pitch correction. With Pitch Correction engaged, only the notes in your selected scale and key will be available on your Theremini.
A Musician's Training Tool
Develop your sense of pitch. The built-in tuner uses the LCD to display both the note being played, and to indicate whether the note is being played sharp, flat, or perfectly in tune.
Easy Setup
The built-in speaker allows Theremini to deliver quality sound on its own. Set it up and play anywhere without the need for an additional amplifier or speakers.
Expressive Sounds
The only theremin equipped with a powerful sound engine derived from Moog's Animoog synthesizer. offers 32 presets, each providing a distinctly different tonality, or timbre.
Creative Controller
Pitch/CV output and USB MIDI can control other synthesizers in your setup. Use the Presets knob to select whether the current Pitch Correction setting is applied to the CV out.
Software Editor Included
Edit Theremini's presets and access advanced settings with the free theremini editor.
Playing the Theremini
The Theremini is played by interacting with two electronic antenna using subtle hand gestures. Control the Volume with the horizontal loop antenna. control the Pitch using the vertical rod antenna.
Volume Antenna
Play any note and slowly raise your left hand to raise the volume. Gradually lower your hand toward the antenna to reduce the volume or place your hand very close to mute or activate Auto-mute.
Pitch Antenna
Control the pitch or frequency that the Theremini is playing. Place your hand closer to the Pitch antenna to raise/play the highest selected note. Pulling your hand back lowers the pitch frequency.
Expressive Volume
Play with your volume hand about three-quarters of the way up. The casual hand or fingers raise makes the volume swell. Dipping your fingers or wrist slightly makes the volume drop.
Vibrato
To perform vibrato, simply give your pitch hand a slight wiggle. The trick is learning to sync the back-and-forth motions in a way that are musically appropriate to what you are playing.
Light, Delicate Movements
Subtle knuckle movement or pinky extension is all that is required to move to the next note. Spreading out your fingers can raise the pitch with a full octave. Imagine tickling butterflies.
