My old cartridge was leaking and I kept tightening the plastic nut to make it stop, but the nut would get loose in a few months and it would start to leak again. Although the nut can be tightened with the water pressure on, the instructions specify one quarter of a turn after hand tight. Note that hand tight must be with no water pressure, unless you have a better grip than I have. However, a better way is to tighten until the plastic nut is at the end of travel (this is quite noticeable and nothing breaks), which will be reached sooner than the specified fraction of turn if you hand tighten with no water pressure. Note also that the plastic nut gets smooth after one use and, as a result, it will get loose over time. So, it is not a good idea to re-use the plastic nut, even if it looks perfectly fine. When installed properly, it is great!
