I replaced a 24 year old basic shower head with this one. There was nothing wrong with the previous shower head we just completed a home renovation and updated the bathroom so why not the shower head. ••• SIZE ••• I chose this Moen 20090 shower head based on the reviews and most importantly the size. At 3.75" inches this Moen shower head is one of the smaller ones I found. Most massaging shower heads are around 5" inches or even larger. I did find a smaller shower head @ 3.5" inches but it was 4x the price and had similar features and reviews. ••• Flow Rate / Water Pressure ••• The second reason for choosing this Moen 20090 shower head was the 2.5 gpm flow rate. Most of the shower heads I looked at only had flow rates of 1.5-1.8 gpm. I don't mind using a little more water if I can get more pressure. ••• Build Quality ••• The quality of this shower head is good. Build quality is almost all plastic. The previous 24 year old shower head actually had 60% or more metal and brass. Most of the newer shower heads are plastic or metal plated so I didn't expect to get a solid metal/brass shower head for under $30. ••• Settings ••• The pressure from this shower head is decent for 2025 however I still would have preferred more pressure for the massage function. For showering the pressure is good on the first 3 settings. Setting 4 is for massage and water, it's pretty wimpy at both. Setting 5 is massage. The massage pressure is Ok by nothing like the old Waterpik massaging shower heads from 10 years ago. I do find the shower head to be very noisy on the massage setting also. The first 'Concentrated Flow' setting is the one with the best pressure and narrow stream of water. The stream of water from this shower head can be adjusted from wide to narrow and it has a larger swivel range so it can point down further than our previous shower head ... All these are good things! ••• Important Installation Tip ••• This shower head is very easy to install. The only tool you need is a wrench. You basically unscrew the current shower head, clean off the threads and then wrap the treads with new teflon tape and twist on the new shower head. This Moen shower head fits very loosely on the threaded shower pipe. It's very easy to twist on but leaks a lot once installed even with teflon tape. After my first try was leaking I removed the shower head and installed more teflon tape. It worked better but still leaked a bit. I tried once again and after the third attempt ... with TONS of teflon tape, the shower head fit and didn't leak. I don't know why you need to use so much teflon tape to get the threads on this shower head to seal but you do. If you do not have any teflon tape, make sure you order a roll when you order this shower head. I wrapped the shower pipe more than 25 times with teflon tape before I could get a leak free seal. Be Prepared! ••• Recommendation ••• Overall I'm happy with this Moen Ignite 20090 Shower Head. The pressure is decent for showering and I like the smaller 3.75" inch size. The $27.99 price is also a good value. On the downside be prepared to wrap the threads of your shower pipe with LOTS of teflon tape otherwise you'll have leaks at the threaded joint. While the shower pressure is good, the massage pressure is lacking. If you have roof for a 4.5" shower head I would consider the WaterPik massaging shower head. I think the massage power of the Waterpik or Delta is better but they are either larger or more expensive than this Moen. All factors considered, this Moen 20090 shower head has decent performance, looks great and is value priced. I would recommend it and would order it again. Just remember to wrap your pipe threads with lots of teflon tape to avoid leaks.
