Works great but thought I was getting a brand new one, oil all over the unit, box and hoses. Used it 3 times to change lawnmower and small engines etc. and oil still comes out of hand pump! Very happy with the product just disappointed in a used one was shipped and having to clean up before first use….

Does what it's supposed to do and has the best reviews compared to others on the market.

First time using it, pulled about 4L of old engine oil using the bigger dipstick tube out in less than 10 mins.

I've researched these other models as well, but the Mityvac 7201 (specifically the 7201 and not the 7400) has more general positive feedback overall:
    Topsider
    Mityvac 7400

For the Topsider, you read about a lot of issues with it losing vacuum. I think that's because there's no separate pour-out hole, like the 7201 has. You end up having to keep removing the pump mechanism, and that wear and tear causes those sealing issues.

For the Mityvac 7400, you read a lot about seal & pump issues - especially when fluid is left in the reservoir. The reason is because the pump is contained within the reservoir, not outside like it is in the 7201, and old fluids left in there cause damage to the pump mechanism over time.

Some tips on using the Mityvac 7201:

    1. Cut a small 45deg cutout on the end of the hose that will go into the oil pan. This is to prevent the hose's end from forming a complete seal on the bottom of the oil pan, which will prevent any liquid from flowing through the hose.
Search the web for some forum posts talking about this.

    2. Practice first on a bucket of water.
Press the bigger hose into the hole on top the unit, next to the cork.
Connect whichever smaller hose works for your car's dipstick hole to the bigger hose.
Put the smaller hose into the bucket of water.
    Pump the vacuum 6x.
You'll see and hear the water start to go into the reservoir.
You can pump a couple times here and there as it's picking up the water, to accelerate the process.
Near the end, you'll hear a gurgling sound as the bucket is almost empty.
Keep pumping while you guide the hose around to suction up all the remaining water.

The idea is that you'll use this knowledge to help you, when you're doing it 'blind' with the engine oil extraction - because you won't be able to see what's happening within the oil pan.

    3. Use as 'One way' for Extraction only.
Meaning, always keep it in the Extract mode (button pushed down) and try not to use the Dispense mode. Just empty reservoir using the corked pour-out on the top.

My reasoning is that this will result in less wear-and-tear and prevent gunking up the mechanisms and tubes with old dirty oil. Especially after reading comments about the Extract/Dispense switch o-rings failing over time.

    4. Clean after use by suctioning brake cleaner or some other type of engine oil cleaner, swishing around and pouring out through top.

    Update 11-11-2023

After I submitted the review, I received an email and several calls from the vendor, explaining that there has been some misunderstanding or mix up, and vendor was very friendly and pleasant. Quickly refunded the deducted portion (50%). Great and prompt customer service for a rather unpleasant experience. Have yet decide to purchase another unit (i.e. give it another try) or just go and buy one from a local hardware store.
    _________
I purchased a unit based on recommendation of a colleague at work. The unit was shipped and arrived on time. Upon the first try, the unit failed with very little amount of oil got drawn up (less than 100 mL in 10 minutes!). Did a vacuum test (plug the hose and pump several dozen times) and it would appear the unit has a leak either at the switching valve or connectors. Chose to return to vendor and it was such a bad experience. Postage required to be paid by customer (40$), and vendor chose to deduct another 50% stocking fee, claiming it has been used (Of course it has been used as we tried to use it to remove oil, Duh!). Sorry, can't recommend product or vendor. Hope your experience is better - good luck!

Can change oil in 20 minutes--no mess--really works well. The only thing I wish it had was a removable top so it could be cleaned and wiped down on the inside. Suggest replacing oil filter with extended range filter and change it every second oil change. I suck out the oil and mark the side of the unit with felt marker. Empty the used oil and gravity drain the unit, then add new oil to the mark and reverse the process. Caution, NEVER put solvents of any kind in the unit. It will damage the seals. I would buy again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works beautifully for oil changes and transmission fluid changes. Pays for itself right away.

I use this tool when I am doing mid-interval oil changes on my 2014 Honda CRV. These are the oil changes where I am just changing the motor oil, not the filter. This tool allows me to vacuum the oil out of the oil pan without having to crawl under the car. I also use it for evacuating the transmission fluid from the automatic transmission. In both cases, I to slide the tube down where the dipstick goes and extract the fluid. When the schedule calls for doing the transfer case for the rear wheels, I'm sure it will come in handy. I usually have the garage do that work, but now that I have this tool I can do it at home. If your experience is like my own, you've had disappointments working with garages. I like the peace of mind of doing these simple maintenance tasks myself. They are simple, but they are critical.

Robust build. Easy to use. Great capacity and easy to pour old oil into can.
This worked well on my 2017 and then my replacement 2021 Audi A4 TDI.
I would say these oil evaluators are great if the oil filter is located on the top of the engine as in the case with my A4.
If the oil filter is underneath then the car would need to be raised and plastic guard removed so then you would easily get to the sump nut so why bother with this tool at all ?
With my oil filter on top I don't need to lift the car at all, simply suck out the old oil through the dip pipe. It is also great for cleaning out around the removed paper oil filter. The engine and therefore the engine oil needs to be warm & you get a feel as to how far to shove the correct diameter pipe into the dipstick tube until it hits the sump pan. Had approx 5L of old oil out in less than 10 min. Quick, easy oil & oil filter change.
Hope it lasts. Have done 3 services now with min fuss. Delighted with it .
I leave tubes high to allow to drain back over time. Easy to empty too from spout.
