Any MikroTik device with active cooling that has SFP+ ports can now be used without installing any optical fiber, just plug the S+RJ10 and your network can be upgraded to 10 Gbps, making it ready for the next generation of RJ45 hardware. S+RJ10 module is supported also on devices with passive cooling, but may require an extra cooling. New revision of S+RJ10 comes with several improvements: - Jumbo frames up to 10218 Bytes are now supported; - Link speed reporting is fixed - actual link speed in the interface menu is listed. Previously 100M/1G/2.5G/5G link speeds were not reported correctly; - DDM monitoring (Supply Voltage, Module temperature) is now supported.

I used a bunch of thirdmarket of SFP+ module and none were showing the correct speed negociated. This caused me a lot of buffering issue on Mikrotik Switch. This OEM sfp+ module (REV 2!) is working great ! I'm happy that my nightmare is finally done :)

It inadvertently worked as a cable diagnostic tool coupled with the link speed reporting of the switch at the other end. I was horrified to see it negotiated 100 Mbps at the copper end, but that was the idea after reading reviews on here; essentially to determine if the in-wall CAT5e cable was actually 10 Gbps worthy or merely reporting that as the link speed over RJ45.

TLDR - The CAT5e cable was actually good as when I swapped the CAT8/40Gbps rated _patch_ cable (that looks like something out of Transformers), from the wall, the link went to 10 Gbps. Just seeing that it can detect a bad cable assures me that the 10 Gbps is probably legit.

This module does what it supposed to but it runs rather hot. I have two similar SFP+ modules both 10G RG45 plugged into Mikrotik CRS305-1G-4S+IN both running at 10gbps speed and this one runs at 90C when the other one (from fs.com) only at 60C. It does no obvious harm but you probably don't want to run too many of them in the same device... this is likely why Mikrotik recommends spacing and staggering them, so it must be a known issue. Good module otherwise.

Amongst the network admin community this has been high touted as one of the best 10g SFP+.

What makes this so good? As an SFP+ it connects to your switch as 10g negotiation.
And then has circuitry to handle on the client side (if you plug it into a computer or another switch etc) and can downgrade the speed to 5g/2.5g/1g etc.

How does this help? For example I have a UDM Pro. On the port negotiation only 10g and 1g are supported so if my computer had a 2.5g network port then the fastest this would connect would be at 1g simply because UDM or <your switch here> does not support a particular speed.

Come in MikroTik S+RJ10... it automagically downgrades to the client's (PC, Switch etc) network connection.

So your UDM security gateway will appear to be connected at 10g and your client PC would show at 2.5g negotiated port speed. The MikroTik allows this seamless speed compatibility downgrade from 10g to 2.5g on the client side (UDM in this case).

I found that it really was very hot, much hotter than many other transceiver temperature ranges.
The manual even says you should keep this SFP+ away from other SFPs incase it overheats them and you may get some triggered temperature auto shutoff.

I gave it 3 out of 5 stars because it functioned well, when its not burning hot and I did have it shut off on me on rare occasions.

There are other transceivers that have this downgrade function and runs a lot less hot.

I took away 2 stars because of the hot temps

While it auto-negotiates a 2.5G link, downlink throughput is limited to approximately 1G. Uplink gets 2.5G. I tired this on a few different TP-link SFP+ switches and behaviour is the same. It works fine for 5G and 10G clients.

On the pricey side, and they run ridiculously, hilariously hot (95-105C), but they can reliably push 10GaseT though the existing Cat5e runs in the walls of my multi-story house, where no other SFPs I've tried have been successful.

I only bother with these for long in-wall runs - cheaper knock-offs (e.g. Ipolex and 10GTek) work fine for short 3-6 foot patches, e.g. between a switch and a PC, and run much cooler.

If you've dismissed 10G as not being possible in your setup due to old wiring, it's worth giving a pair of these a try.

Note that if you're not constrained by existing wiring, though, you're almost certainly better off using fiber instead of twisted pair copper - it's generally much cheaper and easier all around when dealing with 5-10 gig networking.
