Course Description

Reading Comprehension: Level G is intended to help students work on their reading comprehension skills. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to read a text and determine its theme and central idea, determine the meaning of words and phrases used within it, identify key elements of poetry, and analyze the structure of a variety of texts.

This course is split into five units, focusing on fiction, literary nonfiction, drama, poetry, and nonfiction. We recommend scheduling this course one day per week for 36 weeks, although the course structure can be adjusted to fit your needs.

In addition to online practice, students can do some before-and-after reading reflection in these pages. They can also read the passage before beginning the practice questions or while answering them. The “Guide for Using This Book” includes a key with symbols for annotating text, guiding students to read thoughtfully and with purpose. Finally, each lesson includes a QR code that links to an audio recording of the passage for students who may benefit from listening to the text.
