"mess free" is debatable hahaha cause that amount of little squares makes quite a mess if you aren't careful hahahaha
My daughter really enjoyed doing this, she was able to do it on her own quietly and that allowed me to do another more labour intensive project with her younger brother!
Very cute and a great little rainy day summer project!

The Craft Gifts for Girls Poke in Kit with Unicorn and Mermaid sold by the ATFUNSHOP store was a big hit with my two reviewers (precocious 4 & 6 year olds.)

They worked for over 30 minutes in quiet concentration, the older child completing one card, the younger one finished two cards because she was working more quickly and less precisely than the older one. They were stopped by bedtime, not boredom.

The younger one was proud of her less precise results and they both liked that they could hang up the finished creations in their room. Best of all, they still had more cards to do another day.

I've included some pictures of them working and the finished results so you can get a sense of them in the hands of a 4 year old who chose random colours and a 6 year old who precisely worked her plan for the mermaid.

The older one questioned why the mermaid's card had decorations on the tail when it was just going to be covered up with the shimmery squares and we didn't have a good answer for that. Once we were thinking about that it became apparent that the shell cards were covered with squares so look like a blob when finished. The 4 year old didn't care because it was still pretty but an older child might.

The set is perfect for two children to work on side by side. It would also be a good gift to a child in the age suggested age range.

The squares are really staticky so occasionally adults were called upon to get one off a hand (and then try to remove it from their own hand!) They are also really pretty, some changing colour depending on what angle the light hits them. And there will be 100s left over to be used in another craft later (perhaps poking into a styrofoam ball to make a Christmas ornament.)

The product is exactly as described and comes with some nice thick boards that are vibrant and engaging for young children. My daughter chose the unicorn as her first craft attempt at this and enjoyed making it's hair beautiful.
My daughter is 4 years old. She, at times, had a hard time finding where to use the poke stick after the square was put over the hole. Darker hole areas may help younger kids be able to see/learn to feel where the hole is better. Because of the difficulty she has finding the right spot she grew frustrated a time or two, but overall really enjoyed it and loved the end result.
I'd say expect 4-5 year olds to need help. 6+ can probably do on their own. Either way, it's a fun quick craft idea that presents beautifully and comes with lots of colour selection.

I think this poke in craft kit is great. My eldest daughter loves these, and has done a bunch of pillows and mats before. She really likes this one as well, as she gets to hang these up where ever she likes. They’re easy for her to do, and it comes with 2 poke in tools so multiple people can do it at once.

Here’s a list of what I like about the kit:
-There’s a lot of different designs
-Lots of different colour fabric pieces for the kids to choose from
-Easy enough for pretty young kids to do themselves
-It looks pretty nice when they’re done.

And here’s a list of what I don’t like about the kit:
-The poke boards are pretty easy to break/fold
-One of the poke boards that came with it was damaged

So, I think at $23, it’s a pretty fair price for what you’re getting. The thing I’d look out for is what surface you’re going to be doing these on. I would recommend that you do it on a hard surface (like a counter or table), as doing it on a soft surface makes them liable to breaking. That said, they’re still usable, it’s just they don’t look as nice or pretty.

I did this with a 7 year old and she was able to easily do the whole craft herself and they turn out looking quite good. You can follow the colours on the board or just mix them up and they look good both ways which makes it very hard to make mistakes with this craft. Cleanup is quick and easy with picking up the fabric pieces being the only messy part. Everything stores in the box for easy storage between uses. This would make a good gift.

This is a fun and easy activity to do with kids both young or older. I’d say it would be of most interest to kids in the 4-8 age range. My 4 year old did one with me but had trouble poking the pieces of material into all the holes and she wanted my assistance. It is pretty straight forward, foam ornaments that have different designs and little cuts/holes in them and you simply take the square of material and press it into the cracks with a little plastic stick (two provided in kit). It’s fun to pick colors and make cute designs. The pieces of paper/material are colourful and iridescent, which appealed to my daughter. The squares of paper/material were thin/staticky and somewhat stuck together taking out of the bag, which was a little annoying. It’s a mess free (no glue or paint, etc) but the paper pieces can make a mess so it’s best to do it on a table. The ornaments come with string for hanging them and my daughter loved hanging these around the house. It would be a great activity for a birthday party or sleepover with friends. It was a lovely bonding screen free activity for me and my daughter. Would also make a good gift for a crafty child in your life.
