How to prepare the paint before applying a scratch remover like ѱܾ’s ScratchX 2.0
- Wash and dry the vehicle first. Always use a pH balanced car wash soap, such as ѱܾ’s Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner, which gently cleans your car’s paint, adds gloss and shine, and is pH balanced to preserve wax protection.
- After washing and drying, run your clean, dry fingertips over the paint. If it feels rough, you have bonded contaminants on top of your paint. These contaminants can be anything from tree sap mist to industrial fallout or even road tar to paint overspray. ѱܾ’s Smooth Surface Clay Kit comes with everything needed to safely remove bonded contaminants and leave you’re the paint as smooth as glass.
- Next, inspect the paint for below surface defects like swirls, scratches, oxidation and water spots. Good lighting is essential here, consider inspecting the paint in direct sunlight or under strong florescent lights. If possible, use different light sources as different types of light can reveal different below surface defects.
Tips for working with ѱܾ’s ScratchX 2.0
- Always work on a cool surface and in the shade.
- Always apply very thin and evenly to prevent streaking and smearing.
- Work a small amount of ScratchX 2.0 into the paint using moderate pressure and a soft foam applicator like ѱܾ’s Foam Applicator Pads. Work in a 1-2 square foot area in a circular pattern, making 4-6 overlapping passes per section. Wipe the residue off before it dries with a clean premium microfiber towel like ѱܾ’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels. Flip your towel to a clean side for a final wipe.
- Work ScratchX 2.0 in with slight friction as this is needed to activate the micro-abrasive and remove defects. If it’s just simply wiped on and wiped off like a wax, it won’t work to remove the defect.
- Sometimes you need to repeat. Work with light to moderate pressure for 1-2 minutes and wipe it off before it dries. If it doesn’t remove the defect, repeat this multiple times. Each time you re-apply should lessen the defect more.
