Market of One: How your agency can rewrite the rules and create a lasting competitive advantage Kindle Edition
鶹
‘Physician, Heal Thyself!’ Market of One is a long overdue challenge to why an industry which prides itself on differentiating its clients’ brands is so averse to differentiating its own. - Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman Ogilvy UK
The best way to beat the competition is to not have any - to find a space no-one else can occupy. Market of One is a roadmap to get your agency to that rarefied place. - Greg Hahn, Co-Founder, Mischief @ No Fixed Address
The agency market isn’t oversupplied – it’s under-differentiated
Market of One is the essential guide for agency leaders who refuse to compete on price and instead want to stand out, attract better clients and build a renowned, high-margin business.
By breaking free from so-called ‘best practice’ in positioning, culture, sales and pricing, you’ll inspire your team, improve your work and create an agency that your competitors envy.
Packed with candid truths, powerful reframes and just enough healthy scepticism, Market of One offers you a step-by-step roadmap that’s both strategic and personal – blending commercial insights with the practical realities of agency life.
It’s your opportunity to design the agency you’ve always wanted to run.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you are starting a marketing agency, don't. Until you've read this.
Verified PurchaseThe irony of marketing agencies needing help with their own positioning and promotion isn't lost on me. But even the best spinal surgeons can suffer from agonising back pain. Market of One is a standout gem. It’s packed with genuinely useful advice, delivered straight up, with no sugar-coating for the fragile egos that populate the agency world. Robin’s writing is sharp, funny and refreshingly direct. His sense of humour takes the edge off the harder truths he serves up, but make no mistake: this is packed with valuable, no-nonsense insights. That said, it’s not a grim read. Quite the opposite. What shines through is a sense of optimism and agency (pun intended). The overwhelming takeaway us 'You can do this' (just don't screw it up). Robin writes from hard-won experience. He’s been at the coalface, in the trenches, down the mine and on the yachts too. He’s worked with agencies of all shapes and sizes, so his credibility is off the charts. If you run an agency or are thinking of starting one as the AI wave comes in, you've seriously got to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful, thought provoking — and relevant far beyond agencies
Verified PurchaseI don’t run an agency, but I still found Market of One incredibly useful and full of sharp, practical insights. Robin has a rare way of cutting through the noise—what he shares applies far beyond the agency world. It’s really about standing out, getting clear on your value, and being brave enough to break away from the ‘safe’ or expected.
There were several strategies that made me pause and reflect on how I position and price my own work. I particularly appreciated how Robin challenges conventional thinking without ever feeling preachy—just real, honest, and spot on.
It’s an easy read, but one that lingers in your mind and nudges you to rethink. Whether you’re running an agency, a consultancy, or any kind of business where differentiation matters—this book is a gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant presentation of the problem with agencies, and a roadmap to fix it.
Verified PurchaseThis book addresses head-on all of the traps and delusions that creative / marketing / design agencies inevitably stumble into (often knowingly, but helplessly). The refreshing bit isn't in the revelation of the age-old problem, albeit that stuff is nicely presented; it's in the provision of a really neat roadmap (shovel?) to do something about it. An easy read from an author who clearly spends time in the midst of sorting this stuff out in real life practical scenarios, and I know it will be an important reference point for our senior team.

5.0 out of 5 stars Starting an agency? You’ll need this
Verified PurchaseProbably best for new agencies or people thinking of starting an agency - this book acts as the business development director you might not be able to afford to hire yet.
With all Robin’s knowledge, advice and guidance, you’ll be up and running - and excited to get going - with what will feel like years of experience behind you.
