The Makita variable speed heat gun (HG6031VK) is engineered for industrial applications and is ideal for a wide range of applications including vehicle wraps and tinting, stripping lacquer, paint and varnish, thawing frozen pipes, loosening tile and putty, re-melting adhesive, removing stickers, waxing and de-waxing, bending plastic pipes and sheets, and more. The HG6031VK features precise temperature control with a variable temperature control dial (122° - 1, 022° F) and 9 numbered settings, as well as two air flow settings (7 and 14 CFM) so the user can set the heat and blower speed to the application. The HG6031VK has a compact design (only 1.5 lbs.) with a rubberized pistol grip handle. For added convenience during nozzle changes (nozzles sold separately), the integrated rear stand supports the gun in the "up" Position. Added features include a built-in tether notch (tether sold separately), overheat protection, and a 6.6 ft. Cord for maneuverability. The HG6031VK includes a tool case.

I must have got either a defective HG6031VK Heat Gun or Makita PR00000034 1-3/8" Welding Nozzle tip because with all of my strength I can not get the welding nozzle more than an 1/8" on, it just falls off with the slightest knock and remains partly off the gun on an angle because it wont fit. See picture attached. Also the blow molded case is really small and it's extremely hard to get the gun and the power cord back in the case. They could have made the case an 1" wider and solved that issue completely. Also there are 4 slots to hold the tips and again the tip wont fit, its so tight it wont work in any of the case slots. it just pops out with very little effort because it wont seat fully into the slot. See picture of that also. These items are being returned. I have a lot of Makita Power tools that are awesome. I'm surprised of this heat gun quality.

    I wanted one with less things to go wrong, and a good price.There is a unit I wasn't aware of that I may have ordered instead, the HG6030. Temp and air volume controlled by the switch. I hope the variable temperature on the HG6031V is more useful, as it is another thing to break.
    There is of course a more expensive version with more power, LED, push button selection, and comes with accessories.

    I only ran the unit for a few minutes so far to test it, make certain it is new. Seems to work very well, but then I never used one before lol

    It is rather light for a Makita tool, but perhaps none of them are heavier than a hair dryer...just hotter ;-)
