- Reviewed in Canada on October 17, 2023Verified PurchaseThe Makita GA4534 is a really nice, high quality grinder. It's reliable and gets the job done. I would highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in Canada on October 9, 2022Verified PurchaseI got this unit to break some welded joints in a large metal frame that I was scrapping, which gave me an excuse to invest in an angle grinder.
Outside of safety gear (which you should make sure you have before using it), the unit comes pretty much everything you need to get started, including a grinding disc. After you read through the manual, it's straightforward to set up and use.
In terms of pricing, this product was on the lower end of name-branded tools I was researching, so it doesn't have some of the niceties that more expensive products have, namely a carrying case. For me, that's a forgivable omission given the lower price.
What I did appreciate is that this product had a paddle switch at its price point. I care about safety, especially as a newbie to angle grinders. When you release your grip on the paddle switch, the unit turns off. There's a locking mechanism to prevent you from accidentally turning on the unit too. Nice.
In the end, I thought my small cutting project would take an hour, but I was completed in about 15 minutes. Granted, my estimate was based on never having used an angle grinder before. In any case, I'm very happy with my purchase.

- Reviewed in Canada on July 8, 2023Verified PurchaseThis is a good tool overall. It is bulit like a tank, heavy and just works. It doesn't come with any of those fancy features, it has a cord and it is loud. But at the end of day, it does the job and it does it well. So I guess I'm gonna keep this in my garage for a while.
I used this grinder with 3M flat disks to sand some old wood pieces I left over from last project and it runs like a champ. Next I will use it for my basement concrete floor, see how it will come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only Makita for Me!
Verified PurchaseI experienced a burglary last winter of my shop of over $130K worth of tools, equipment and parts. In this burglary I had every Makita angle tool stolen including angle grinders from 4" through 7". Originally I had the 4 1/2 inch with the paddle switch and didn't like the paddle switch because you couldn't lock in on, which I find a necessity when having to grind in places where I have to turn the grinder 90 degrees in my hand. Just doesn't work with a paddle switch! This is a straight forward angle grinder with plenty of power to do the job without so much power it torques out of your hand hold at start up. If I only had one grinder to use it would be this 4 1/2 inch size because it is small enough to get into tight places, light enough to reduce hand fatigue, powerful enough to grind down anything and easy to find replacement cutting and grinding wheels and brushes at any hardware of big box store as well as 鶹 has great buys for most attachments.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent
Verified PurchaseThis is an excellent grinder. I'm not sure if I really like the location of the paddle switch. It has a small safety lever that must be moved before the switch can be pressed and its often impossible to see since the switch is on the bottom of the housing. I often find myself doing awkward contortions and holding the grinder unsteadily in order to activate it. The point of getting a grinder with a paddle switch is safety, and this kind of defeats the point. I also wish the pin wrench used for changing discs could be redesigned to make it slip less. Otherwise it's fantastic: light, powerful, durable, and not too loud.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Gem!
Verified Purchase1 1/2 years - lasts and lasts. First, the idea of the bottom paddle switch is a must as far as I am concerned, if you drop it, lose your grip, jams and flys loose - IT WILL SHUT OFF. This is an indispensable safety feature. This type of bottom switch is comfortable and not a constant effort. A lot of other big name brands have the side switch which may be "always on" or require a constant pressing to keep the grinder on - simple doesn't work for me. Constant on is a 'constant accident waiting to happen', and it can happen in an instant. The other end of the price range I have owned also - "H.F."— spindle lock buttons falls off — you set it down and the bottom switch engages the unit momentarily, like an angry dog it snarls at you — and they are LOUD and run hot!
The other part of an angle grinder that is very important are the gears, these are precision machined gears meaning they will last an looooong time. Add with some high temp bearing grease, I always add extra grease when I get the unit. On the low end of grinders the gears are cast pot metal of some type, wear easily, rattle around, may have real bearings, are LOUD!
The other aspect I like is the amps. These motors draw less than 10 amps, they run relatively cool, they don't dim the lights or pop the breakers when you turn them on. They are less watts because of this and are easier to control, any bigger and higher wattage will be a beast to use.
Remember 10,000 rpm is fast, use eye and ear protection at all times, and get lots of air flow to rid the dust. Stainless won't go away once in the lungs!
Be careful.
