- Reviewed in Canada on November 8, 2023Verified PurchaseLike the hundreds of positive reviews you'll already find online about this tool, if you can splurge and afford it, it's a dream to work with and is awesome at what it does. No cons there. The info appears to be sketchy defining the Canadian vs American model (turns out its the same unit just a different model number), but be aware that there is a 10.8/12v model, and the 18v model. The 18v model is the one you want all the way. Easy to work with, super clean, very precise, but yes, there are 100 ways to cut a hole in drywall with everything from a multi tool to a jab saw to a rotary cutter.. the blades for this are not cheap (can$17 each blade in a 2pak, can$12.25 per blade in a 10 pack) and do wear as fast as a multitude blade. It does cut mild thin wood with another blade, and is basically a specially adapted jigsaw with special blades and a very well designed dust hood. The depth setting really does allow you to cut just the gyproc and not wires, braces or pipes, which is what makes this so good at what it does.. all positives on this one. If you need it, if you can afford it, buy it... you will not be sorry.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 3, 2025Verified PurchaseVery expensive but it saves a lot of time so if you use it often it will pay itself off.
Easy to use and keep on your cut line with the guide line. Functions great.
Very compact
- Reviewed in Canada on December 4, 2018Verified PurchaseThis actually exceeded my expectations, so I can highly recommend it. Cuts so nice and clean, and is easy to use.
Size of the hose connection is not overly common, and some reviewers on 鶹.com mentioned finding an adapter at Home Depot or Lowes. I did not find one at either of those, but luckily the hose for my Hyde Vac Poll Drywall Sander fits it. The fit is not real tight, but when cutting the ceiling there was no issue for it to stay put.
This is the sander that has the hose. Love the sander as well.

Remember this Makita Drywall Cutter doesn't come with the battery and charger, so you need another compatible Makita tool with Charger/Battery, or buy them separately. If you don't have a tool, find a sale to get the battery with a tool that you would use, versus buying separately.
Totally love this drywall cutter, and totally worth the money.

- Reviewed in Canada on October 5, 2024Verified PurchaseIf you ever used a knife, drywall saw (handheld), wiggle saw or even a sawzall and are still using it STOP . This is the cats behind.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 21, 2025Verified PurchaseThis drywall saw is seemingly in a class of its own.
I was sick of drywall dust and mess, particularly when cutting ceilings, then decided to try this saw and have absolutely no regrets, hence writing this review.
It's similar to a jig saw in its handling but is adjustable specifically to drywall depths (blade uses millimetres iirc), so you touch nothing but drywall (i.e. no running into studs, joists, wires or pipes).
Try on a test drywall piece to make sure you have the blade adjusted correctly before cutting into a wall/ceiling.
I'd suggest to use a custom vacuum hose with a larger diameter instead of the manufacturer's recommended hose for better suction.
- Reviewed in Canada on August 14, 2021Verified PurchaseThis tool is especially great for repairs where there is danger of cutting too deep and striking wires or plumbing that are not adequately spaced in walls or ceilings. Depth setting of the blade itself allows some variance on what can safely be cut through. It is also possible according to the manual, to use 18mm x 5mm snap blade sections (3 sections) as a much cheaper alternative to the very expensive Makita blade that comes with the saw to cut through 1/2" drywall. I haven't tried that yet...
- Reviewed in Canada on March 4, 2023Verified PurchaseVery good drywall saw. No dust when connected to me dust extractor. Very fast and precise cuts. Well balanced tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tool for renovation and repair work
Verified PurchaseI do a lot of drywall patching as well as cutting inspection holes etc and this is a huge step up from the multitool we had previously been using. The noise is much lower, and even without a vacuum it catches most of the dust. It’s also safer as adjusted properly, you don’t need to worry about services in the walls. My only complaint is that the depth adjustment is a bit fiddly, but I guess this setup is the easiest way for enabling micro adjustments.
