The magnets keep each side clasped relatively well for most purposes. If you're using them on some type of clothing you'll be vigorously moving around in then they're likely to pop open. The magnet is only in one side, so they don't snap together from as far away as some other types with magnets in either side, but get them near enough each other and they'll naturally mate together just fine.
The four eyelets on the corner make them a little more unsightly than some other variants, but they do make them very easy to hand sew into fabric.
