I have a few gaming PC’s, a couple which I built myself. I have a prebuilt Acer Nitro N50-640 that came with a RTX3050 OEM. I got this computer as a workstation for an office I no longer needed, and over time it’s become a regular multitasker. The 3050 OEM wasn’t cutting it anymore and everyone on the forums said to get the 3060ti or the 4060 for this particular computer.
I researched ALOT of cards and despite the hate this card gets, this runs phenomenally for my purposes. I was hesitant to buy a card released a couple months ago, hearing about driver issues, but these have been mostly patched and will only improve. It’s an 8GB card, if you plan on running 1440 or 4k, get the 16gb version.
My purposes:
-Medium Duty 3D rendering for CAD and STL.
-1080p gaming on ultra settings for everything. (This is NOT a 4k card and a PASSABLE but not perfect 1440p card)
This card works fine maxed out (not overclocked) on the Nitro’s 500w power supply, but I have a 650W coming just to get some headroom for overclocking. Acer is rereleasing the 2025 nitro desktop with this exact card, and it is an easy 15 minute install.
Some High Requirement Games I play:
Elden Ring (solid)
Witcher 3 (solid)
Starfield (have not tested at time of review)
Highly Modded Skyrim (overkill)
Fallout series (overkill)
Indie stuff (absolute overkill)
Metal Gear 1-3 (absolute overkill)
Metal Gear Delta (why I wanted a new card, will update in August when it’s released)
A few VR titles on a not great oculus 2 (7/10, runs decently but this is not a card for a VR enthusiast.)
The card ran on max for hours at <53°C, a far cry from the 70°-75°C the 3050 was running at. The extra space this card allows provides tons of extra airflow and makes the PC run much cooler and smoother. Card was in the sealed box wrapped in static shield, and was obviously brand new. (Note, I have installed additional fans to the air-choked Nitros case, but did so before switching cards.)
Excellent price point, and about 20/30% more bang for your buck than the 4060.
I would say that the 16Gb version of this is obviously better, and far for future proof, but I’m not normally playing the latest triple A ray traced stuff. If you’re a parent looking at this card for your kids computer, get the 16gb version because it will last them longer. Normally I turn ray tracing off anyway as it’s a huge power drain for small gains that my 38 year old eyes do not really even pick up on. Kids will likely see a bigger difference, so if you can, spring for a 16gb card as video games are only getting more demanding.
Probably can’t run crysis 2 on ultra, haven’t tried. 😂
