Versatile Device… Met my Expectations!

Versatile Device… Met my Expectations!
The "MotoPower" branded ODB2 Scanner caught my eye when I came across the listing. I actually another full featured Scanner, but it is much larger and bulkier in comparison and that stays in my Garage. I thought this MotoPower unit could make a good possible candidate for something more compact that remains in my vehicle and I wanted to check this out. This product arrives in printed, retail style packaging. In addition to the main device, you get a simple carrying pouch and a printed, colour manual. I appreciate the inclusion of the manual as it is rare that a maker even includes printed material these days. The manual has decent colour pics along with just enough information to make it useful as a reference without drowning you in tiny text fonts. The device itself has decent general build quality. It feels robust and durable enough for its intended use. The display is surprisingly large for a device at this price point in my opinion. It is bright which makes for easy ready in the dark which is important! I like that the information readout is simple in terms of the presentation, but provides you all you need to know. (I should note that the device is entirely self-powered form your vehicles OBD port!) In actual use this device is very straight forward and becomes intuitive after a very short learning curve. It does not have a full cursor pad, but that is not necessary as the menus have been structured in such a way that you simply jog up or down and cycle through the colour icons on the screen. You basically only have to move the menu via the two up/down keys along with the OK key (which acts as "Enter") and the Back Key in order to exit out of the current screen to return to the main menus. I appreciate the quick access buttons that go directly to the Battery Test and the DTC functions on the fly. This device incorporates a LOT of features I only used to see on much higher priced devices in the past such as the REAL TIME Look when operating. There a lots of very useful features here. Overall, I am very pleased with the MotoPower Model MP69033 Code Reader. It is well made, durable and most importantly, functions as intended. I like that it is compact and easy to store. This met my expectations for being a simple device which I can easily store in the glove box (just in case). At the original listing price of $49.99, I feel this is reasonable for what you are getting here. This device is certainly worth considering in my opinion.

Do you have a questionable vehicle, or a questionable mechanic? Then this might be $50 very well spent for you.

Totally compatible with our 2005 (yes, 20 year old) Toyota RAV4. You simply plug it into the port, and it’s powered by the car. It has wide vehicle comparability, and supports multiple languages. The screen is big, colourful and easy to read. The instruction manual is amazing and walks you through the process - even for non-technical people (like us). We got a code notification for an “Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (very small leak)”, which our mechanic had already told us about. It can also test your batteries, emissions levels, plus a lot of other things besides engine codes.

This car scanner/code reader is a very cool tool to have. Great as a second opinion, or to empower you before taking your vehicle in to the garage. Just beware of the listed limitations - it cannot read ABS, air bag or oil service lights, etc, which are non-OBDII codes. We had both types of dash lights on (ABS and tire pressure sensor) and it did not read them, as expected.

This yellow OBD scanner is a great tool to have in your glove box as it can tell you some basic information about any DTCs you may encounter while on the road. Although it doesn’t tell you too many details about the problem like the factory tool, it will give you a direction if a breakdown occurs mid-trip.

The battery test is very useful, as I had a battery that could not take any charge, but I have no way to confirm that it is dead.

The knowledge base for DTC is good to have, as it tells you some basic instructions for the repair if you are a DIYer like me.

The live data is accurate and smooth. I checked my car and did not find anything out of range.

I wish it could come with more features, as it seems to only support basic OBD diagnostic mode. It does not do any specific brand test.

If you do your own car repair like me, it's worth buying as this is a good starting gadget for your toolbox.

This is a really straight forward device, just plug it into your cars scanner plug and select the OBD2 scan option to let it connect and read. I didn't have any issues to detect on my car since the engine light isn't on and it seems to be running fine, but it was nice seeing all the options and even getting some data on the car. The menu is really easy to navigate, except for the part where there's no left or right buttons but that's not a huge deal. Best of all it's a plug and play, so no apps to download or anything to worry about there, just open the box turn it on and your ready to go.

Overall, simple, cheap and does what it says. I recommend this obd2 scanner.

Okay, I’m no Grease Monkey—my idea of "under the hood" is opening the hood ornament—but the MOTOPOWER MP69033 made me feel like a car-whisperer. I plugged it into my OBD‑II port, hit a couple buttons, and bam—it read and cleared my check-engine light in under a minute, all powered by the car itself—no batteries needed. The 2.8‑inch screen actually shows live data and explains those confusing error codes, so you can finally understand what that mysterious warning light means. It’s like having a mechanic in your pocket—except it won’t charge you for a coffee. For about \$25, this little yellow gizmo saved me a trip to the shop and gave me peace of mind. Perfect for weekend tinkerers or anyone who doesn’t want to cry at a repair bill.

I ordered this OBD2 scanner/code reader from MOTOPOWER and have been thoroughly impressed by its performance and ease of use. Right out of the box, it’s a true plug and play device. No app downloads, no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth setup required. I plugged it into my 2013 Toyota Camry and within seconds, it was up and running.

One of the standout features is the built-in OBD2 DTC lookup library. When my check engine light came on, this tool helped me identify the issue quickly without needing to wait or pay for a shop diagnostic.

In addition to reading and clearing fault codes, the scanner doubles as a battery tester, which has been incredibly useful. It reads the battery voltage in real-time and checks starting performance and alternator output, helping ensure my battery and charging system are working properly.

The 2.8-inch TFT color screen is bright, easy to read, and user-friendly and is great even for someone who isn’t a car expert. The menus are intuitive, and the overall design is compact and sturdy, making it convenient to store in the glove box or center console. It also comes with a drawstring dust bag for storage and instruction manual.

MOTOPOWER MP69033 Pro OBD2 Scanner Code Reader Check Engine Fault Light Diagnostic Scan Tool with Battery Tester

This is a decent OBD 2 error code reader and reset tool for your car. It also has a battery testing facility built in which is fairly unusual at this price point. It is very simple to use, and all you do is plug the tethered cable into the OBD port in your car. I find this sort much easier to use that the cheaper cable less versions that you need to connect to your phone via Bluetooth. The unit apparently has over 10,000 error codes stored in the machine, so it should be able to diagnose most issue. Be aware that unlike some of the more expensive tools you will not be able to reset servicing information, and it will also not be able to diagnose braking system ABS error codes or Airbags.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice code scanner. Scans and clears codes quickly. Battery test is limited and not so "advanced".

If you're looking for a well built, easy to use basic OBD2 code scanner that doesn't require a WIFI or Bluetooth connection, this is a great choice. It provides all the basic features you'd expect from a code scanner in this price range It also has a couple of nice extras like a view of some basic Real Time Data, battery voltage during cranking, IM readiness and viewing freeze frame data.

It's easy to use and it pulls codes quickly. This device is powered by the vehicle so no batteries are required. Just plug it in, turn your ignition on and you're ready to go. There is a built in code database and lookup tool. It will give you basic information like a brief description of the common general OBD2 DTCs. It likely won't tell you much, if anything, about manufacturer specific codes. This tool is OBD2 only and does not support non-OBDII systems. You won't be using it to deal with ABS, airbags, oil change, service or maintenance lights etc.

My main complaint with this device is simply the way some of the "features" are presented via marketing copy. Some of the claims in the listing description are a bit misleading. Nothing major, just subtle clever wording that may fool some car repair novices. Manufacturers of these affordable tools have a habit of repackaging basic functions in a different window and touting it as a great separate feature. Take, for example, the battery test feature.

The listing details described the battery test feature as an "Advanced Battery and Alternator Test with Real Time Monitoring". In reality the scanner just displays and graphs voltages seen at the OBD2 port. It will tell you if your battery voltage is low at rest, insufficient during cranking and it will display voltage while the vehicle is running. That's all fine and dandy and mildly useful. It will tell you if your battery voltage is low. It will also tell you what your system voltage is while the vehicle is running. It if is high or low this could indicate a potential issue with the alternator. These are in no way "advanced" battery testing. In order to tell us anything really useful about battery status, this tool would need to hook directly to the battery.

Voltage is just one small detail when it comes to testing a battery. The voltage readings this tool give you don't tell you anything about cold cranking amps, load testing, battery state of health, charge status, internal resistance or anything else that might help you determine whether your battery is good or not. Voltage can lie. A battery with perfect voltage might still be weak, and a low reading doesn’t always mean the battery is junk. This tool won’t catch either case reliably. That's not to say the battery test mode is useless. Knowing voltages without having to hook up a voltmeter and try to watch things yourself on the fly is convenient. It just isn't "advanced battery testing." Plotting battery voltages on a squiggly line isn't exactly doing "Live ripple analysis" to "detect diode failures" like the listing might try to make you believe. Long story short: this tool will show you float voltage, give you an idea what voltages are doing while cranking and show you voltage while running to get a general idea of alternator output.

The evap test mode on this tool is pretty pointless. It essentially shows you a voltage reading and a general accelerator pedal position sensor reading as a percentage. I guess that's ok if you need to know what voltage the meter is seeing and whether or not you're giving the vehicle gas during a smoke test? This isn't a bidirectional tool so you're not going to be doing anything useful with this scanner during an evap test. It sounds good on paper but there's little real work value.

Likewise with the "Vehicle Info" mode. This mode essentially just shows the VIN and a calibration ID if supported by the vehicle. It's useful for showing whether the ECU matches the vin on the vehicle plate etc. It could be useful but not a major benefit to most people.

Being able to view I/M Readiness values is a nice feature. This lets you know if you're car is ready for emissions inspection and can help tell you if someone recently cleared codes to make a Check engine light go away right before you look at a used vehicle for example.

    PROS:
    + Affordable Price
+ Has all the basic functions you'd expect: View codes, clear codes, view freeze frame data etc
+ The real time data view is nice too see things like RPM, coolant temp, short and long term fuel trims etc.
+ No internet, WifI, bluetooth, phone or app required
    + Easy to use
+ Scans codes quickly and accurately
    + Storage bag included
+ Works well as a basic code reader and check engine light reset tool
+ Viewing I/M Readiness is nice feature, especially if you're buying a used vehicle.
+ Viewing and monitoring battery voltage and system voltage is a useful feature

    CONS:
-The extra "features" and "modes" are a bit misleading. The battery test mode is just a voltmeter. With this tool you can measure static/float voltage, voltage during cranking and voltage while running. It is useful for checking battery and alternator output voltages and that's about it.

    - The evap test mode is pretty pointless.
    - The storage bag is nice for keeping the scanner dust free, but doesn't do much to protect the scanner from impacts etc

    - Aside from not needing batteries or bluetooth, this isn't much different than the cheap bluetooth scanners.

    CONCLUSION:
This is a decent quality affordable OBD2 Diagnostic code scanner. It allows you to view trouble codes, clear codes to reset the check engine light and also view some limited real time data. It's better than a cheap "code reader" that only reads codes and provides some basic diagnostic information. It is nowhere near as useful as a more expensive bidirectional diagnostic scan tool but it isn't supposed to be.

My main code scanner is actually a cheap ELM327 style Bluetooth dongle. It cost under 7 bucks and with a free app it gives me basically all the information this too does. This tool provides similar functionality and doesn't require a Wifi or Bluetooth connection. It's great for giving you additional information and peace of mind about most OBDII Vehicles.

Nice code scanner.

Gave this to my father as a gift bc he is a DIY king! There is nothing this man cannot fix, but it is certainly helpful to know WHAT needs repair, and this is it! Plugs in easily and is accurate. My dad wanted to “make sure” it was accurate so he used it to check a confirmed issue and it was right. He has a jeep trail hawk for reference. Since it was basically just plugged in and ready this was perfect for anyone with or without knowledge of how to repair. Easy to read and I’m sure makes a difference going to a mechanic or the dealership armed with your own knowledge and reader to make sure you are getting only the services you need. I’d definitely recommend, especially for less than the cost of running a diagnostic at an auto shop/mechanic/dealership.
