About the author

María Jesús Evuna was born on January 1, 1969, in the town of Nkumekieñ (Yebekuan), in the province of Wele-Nzas, Equatorial Guinea. She is a poet and novelist, and her narrative works can be classified within the genres of fantasy and science fiction. Her works range from young adult novels and children's stories to short stories and poetry, and her texts are always infused with a simple and poetic style, in which her social commitment also stands out.
Evuna is currently a full member of the Equatoguinean Academy of the Spanish Language, occupying the L chair. She is also the General Director of the Department of Missions of the Presidency of the Republic. As a writer, she has received some important recognitions within her country, such as the Miguel de Cervantes Award from the Equatoguinean Academy of the Spanish Language for her dramatic work La verdad de Ana (2022, about school sexual violence). She has also been recognized with several awards in the 12 de Octubre Literary Contest in the poetry category for her work Mujer voladora (2018), and in the narrative category with the special Raquel Ilombe award for her short story La gran desaparición. In 2019, she received another award from the Spanish Cultural Center in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, for her work En clave poética.
Apart from all this, María Jesús Evuna has published the poetry book El sexo de las estrellas and is currently immersed in the writing and release of a tetralogy named Las aventuras de Fabby y el Libro Mágico, of which the first three novels in the series have been published: El bosque, Viaje en el tiempo, and Bajo cero. Other works published in 2023 include La gran desaparición (a series of science fiction stories) and children's books that can be enjoyed on her author page. Her desire to instill a love for reading in young people drives this author not only to write for them but also to dedicate part of her time to philanthropic activities through the NGO Happy Hearts Association (Asociación Caritas Felices), where she holds the position of president. Through this organization, she has already established more than thirty-four libraries in both public and private schools in Equatorial Guinea.
