Product description

鶹.ca Product Description

If you were suddenly castaway on a desert island or stranded in the wilderness or a jungle, what's the one tool you would want at your side? The answer is a good machete. You see the machete, over the last three centuries, has proven to be the ultimate outdoor and survival tool. It will cut, chop, slash, hack, split, scrape, scoop, hammer, dig, crush, carve, whittle, crack or smash just about anything you can put in front of it. The machete also makes a deadly improvised weapon. It can be used to kill both fish and game and will gut, scale, filet, skin, quarter and butcher them for the table as well. And when you look at its meager cost, it's got to be one of the best bargains for hard earned cash in the world. In fact it's so cheap and useful that even the poorest peasant in South America or tribesman in Africa invariably owns one and counts on it as one of his most precious possessions. These blades are made out of 1055 Carbon Steel with a tough spring temper and are surfaced with a black, baked-on anti-rust finish. Each Cold Steel machete comes with a good utility edge which, with just a little work, can be made hair shaving sharp. The tough, Polypropylene handles of our machetes are designed to provide a comfortable secure grip and they are rugged enough to resist chipping, cracking or breaking, so they last practically forever.

Everything about this kukri is sorta average except for the price which is stupid good. The blade is not that heavy or that long. The craftsmanship isn't meticulous but it's not shoddy. I bought a K-bar some time ago and my review after a year would have been quite different than on the evening of purchase. Maybe I'm naive but I'm sceptical that Cold Steel would peddle sub-standard goods. This is not quite a work horse but it's certainly serviceable. It's not a museum piece, but it's not a piece of crap. Would I buy it again? Probably not.

Best machete I've ever owned. Used it during the summer for some extensive hedge pruning and at a backwoods camp site to build a shelter. Haven't sharpened it and it's still very sharp although the finish is scuffed up. A lot of hard use and not a chip or roll in the blade. Thought it was a bit thin but that hasn't been an issue. I would highly recommend this tool.

What can you say. Cold Steel blade...
Been wanting to get one for awhile but was buying others. Finally got to this one.
Chops and slices like a dream. Feels great in the hand and flips well in kata forms form for blade handling.
Price is good too. Shipped faster than I thought especially coming from Arizona. Crossed the border and arrived before my order from Winnipeg. (Same order)
Well a nice addition to my CS family. My 23rd piece.

The blade while not the sharpest out the box is good and sturdy. I could use it immediately and not be disappointed in the quality of the cut. Goes through some pretty thick timber with little concerns.

The sheathe is possibly my biggest personal issue it's nylon and plastic with barely any decent metal involved. I prefer leather and metal for most everything.

The handle though is terrible. I have very large hands while the Machete fits nicely in those hands, it's just to round with little enough texture that if I swing slightly off it will roll in my hands which is rather painfully jarring on the shoulder.

While it's mostly a personal bias against plastic or rubberized handles. I would love to see a wooden riveted handle.

It showed up at my door with an edge that couldnt even tear paper. After putting a proper hone on this bad mother, I took it on a snowshoe hike, and I was impressed by how much the blade works for you, instead of you working for the blade. Made chopping easy and effortless. Just wish that cordura sheath had eyelet rivets to run paracord through instead of the solid ones.

I bought this to know whether or not the more expensive gurkha kukri plus was for me. Needs work on the edge a bit (just refinement), but it's a great tool. For $30 bucks I knew what I was getting and am very happy with it.

Awesome tool - decent sheath and good weight to it. I've never seen an expensive one but this one is very functional, splits wood out of the box no problem. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the solid rubber handle.. It's durable and comfortable but if you want to swap it out you'll have to destroy it and make some modifications to the steel. Other than that, real pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Kukri knife machete, well worth the money.

Wanted a Cold Steel kukri machete for awhile, after I already got the CS Magnum Kukri a few years ago, but wanted a shorter version. This one filled the bill: sharp, great handling, and cheap when I bought it for $17.84. I didn't hesitate, snapped it up. You shouldn't either, buy one!
UPDATE: So, I have had this a few months, and wanted to give additional perspective. Great balance in the hand, extremely fast and agile. Much smoother to use than my original CS Magnum Kukri, not so heavy or fatiguing, and actually cut brush and foliage better in my hands. The guard against hand creep is a great safety feature, first started with the CS Royal Kukri machete. Overall, it is nice and sturdy, not too much flex at all. It chops it up with the best of them. I got this thing at an insane price on 鶹 for less than $18, an absolute bargain! It comes sharp, but I am a sharpening *demon and hit it up again. Now, it is deadly sharp, so bring on those zombies!
2nd UPDATE: I love this Kukri more and more, use it for home defense and it is deadly for that purpose. It is sharp as hell, and even after yard chores around the house, keeps its edge. I let my yard man use it to trim back bushes, and he didn't want to give it back, and then wanted to know where could get one. Just as I predicted, it would go up in price, it is now almost $30 plus shipping, while I got it for less than $18.00 plus free shipping. For those few complaining about the grip or edge, well it is your job to maintain it, so sharpen it and put grip tape, leather wrap, or ranger bands on it. It is a devastating chopper for bushing weed and saplings, and a superb home defense weapon, and again I just love mine.

I bought a house and the back yard was in bad shape. This tool made all the hard work a real pleasure. I live in Louisiana and I have a lot of bamboos near my back fence. Hacking bamboos with Cold Steel Kukri is one of the most fun things I have done. The shape of the blade is incredible in transmitting the force of the cut exactly where you want it, and using this tool efficiently just feels so natural. The first time I worked with it I kept destroying bamboos and their roots for over an hour and a half, my hands got blisters (the handle is great but the skin needs to harden in order to get used of this plastic) but I just kept going because it was just great fun cutting down things. As shown in the photo I covered the handle with leather straps, and I may also use a leather glove which is great if your work is mixed wood work with digging (uprooting bamboos etc). The inner most point of the curve of the blade works fantastic for shaping wood as shown in the photo. Minor dings on the blade from hitting small stones in the soil when hitting bamboos near their root. No impact whatsoever, not even in the sharpness of the blade by working long hours with hard wood. A solid tool that is a real pleasure to work with, and the price is just incredible. I am getting a second one soon.
