Our basil is a great complement to any meat, salad, cheese or tomato dish. One jar is equal to 3 fresh bunches! When cooking with our herbs, we recommend substituting one tablespoon of freeze-dried herb for one tablespoon fresh.

    "It's OK." Not quite ready for prime time. My wife and I love caprese salad and look forward to spring and summer when two very critical ingredients are at their peak. This would be, of course, tomatoes and basil. It turns out that great (fresh) tomatoes are now relatively easy to come by all year long as the campari type has become somewhat widespread and except for locally grown fresh picked, they are perfect for the salad. Basil is another matter entirely. If you live in a culinary wasteland, food desert like we do (Beaumont, TX), fresh sweet basil is only available for a limited time. Enter Litehouse Freeze Dried—from other reviews we were led to believe that this was the next best thing to fresh. Well, hardly. In fact, you are better off with the tubes of basil that you can find in the chilled produce section of your supermarket.

    What Litehouse needs to do is freeze dry whole leaves.

    Taste like any other dried basil. I am not a fan of dried basil because it loses all that magic basil flavor.

    I was hoping that freeze dried basil preserves that magic aromatic basil flavor. Sadly it does not.

    I will state that maybe it's just a teeny teeny tiny bit better than regular dried basil. But don't expect to make any pesto out of this!

    I love using Basil with my pasta dishes and if I cant get it fresh, then this is my next choice. This brand of freeze dry basil is pretty good. I first found it at Walmart and when I could not find it again I checked 鶹 and they had it so I am a very happy camper. A definite recommend.
