OK, my understanding of the function of this test lead is that with the switch in the on position it is meant to act as a shunt to complete the circuit that is broken by disconnecting the negative battery cable, and bypasses the meter. When the switch is turned off, the current would then flow through the meter but not the shunt. That is not what the test lead I received does. Regardless of switch position, current flows through all terminals simultaneously. The fuse holders and terminals are good enough, but the switch is pretty ‘Mickey Mouse’, and apparently either faulty or damaged during soldering because it does not shunt/bypass in anyway. The chances of getting this thing replaced at no cost in any sort of reasonable time are next to nil, so I think I’ll just cut the switch out and convert it to a simple pair of fused test leads with alligator clamp ends, and then make my own shunt. Too bad, because the idea is a good one but the one I got doesn’t work.
