About Us
After immigrating from Russia to the United States, Isidor Leviton opened a small tinsmithing business in
1906, where he produced mantle tips used for gas lighting. With the rise of Edison’s light bulb, Leviton shifted to manufacture a single electrical product: the pull-chain lamp holder.
From that one electrical device, Leviton has paved the way for generations of people around the world to live and work with greater ease and security.
Product description
ENCLOSURE FOR YOUR STRUCTURED MEDIA CENTER: This 14 Inch professional-grade whole-house media enclosure creates one distribution point in the home for all low voltage cables. The SMC-140 is ideal for MDUs (Multiple Dwelling Units) or more modest homes requiring standard audio/video/voice and data configurations. It will accommodate two Pre-Configured Structured Cabling Panels. The sturdy design and functionality facilitate installation, reducing job-site labor costs, and making it ideal for essential home networking. Accommodates up to two full-width Pre-Configured Structured Cabling Panelsdelivering audio/video, voice and data to any room of the home or office. Positive "stops" on housing sidewalls prevent the enclosure from falling through studs during installation. One piece white steel unit holds full and half-width expansion modules. Can be surface-mounted or recessed. Ideal for new installations or retrofits. Purchase empty or in kits with a flush-mount cover. Powder-coated white flush-mount and hinged covers feature a 3/4" overlap to hide irregular drywall cuts. Hinged cover opens 180 degrees and mounts on right or left side for easy-access in tighter spaces. An optional lock and key set are available for the hinged cover to offer added security. Mounting guides on the cover align screw-holes and reduce the chances of dropping during attachment. Combine two or more enclosures for larger installations or future expansion. Mounting guides on the cover align screw-holes and reduce the chances of dropping during attachment. One cut-out on bottom of SMC for single-gang (surge and non-surge) J-Box power module.

I'm using it for a Samsung Frame TV, for the "one connect box"
- Reviewed in Canada on July 23, 2021The 28" version fit my needs with plenty of space. Lots of mounting options inside, as well as for the SMC it's self. Fits a standard 2x4 stud wall or can be mounted on a wall (ideally on wood sheet). Looks great, purchase a plastic door if you plan on putting your wifi in the unit, or mount a access point somewhere outside the cabinet like I chose to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great box, but serves different purpose than an SMC
Verified PurchaseThis SMC is too small for today's digital needs. Nevertheless, it is a great solution for a "structured wiring" hub. Here is why: 1) All demarcation cables, including POTS, CATV, FiOS, and DSL should arrive to this box. Then from there, you distribute the POTS to the rest of the house using a Leviton Patch panel Cat5e, or to a PBX located outside the box. Then you take the CATV coax from the utility company and plug into a splitter to distribute the signal to all the rooms. Finally, you use the extra entry-exit conduit holes in the box (located on the top and bottom) to welcome all the Cat6, speakers, HDMI, IR, General Purpose Low-Voltage cables coming from the attic/basement of the house and redirect them to another location where the media/data rack is located. And you will still have some space left for a FiOS modem inside the box, although it will be tight. All in all, in the past this box would house a small cable modem + patch panel - but today, it's basically becoming a cable hub. Still a good thing to have and best-practice. A server rack where you can house all your media/data needs is the best solution nowadays. And get rid of your media furniture, these things are past now. Just run everything from your rack to the walls and add some IR repeaters to change channels and sources. Don't forget to add an outlet to the SMC box (in case you ever need to install a modem inside) and to - of course- ground it!

Verified PurchaseGood quality but I had to do some modifications to make it fit my application. I mounted it on an outside wall paneled in T1-11 siding. So I made a wooden frame around the box & painted it green like the house. The AC Leviton AC surge-protected outlet was a bit trickier. I used a shorter switch box with the cable coming in from the side then built a small wooden box of 1/4" roughsawn plywood to cover it. A tight fit but it worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great panel but too exact
Verified PurchaseThe cabinet is very well made. I just installed it recessed in a clients wall. The dimensions & tolerances are exact for installing between stud in a perfect world. In my case the studs were 1/4" off and twisted in the wall which made for an unpleasant install. Leviton should allow for this and not make the panel so exact. In other works account for some slop. Otherwise it's a nice panel.

Verified PurchaseMounted in a closet of the house we are currently building. Unfortunately for me I had to mount it in the ceiling with how the walls were laid out, oversight on my part. Worked great, I only wish I could have found some rubber grommets in town for the knockouts. Currently it has 24 cat 6 lines run into it, and I have plans to run several coax lines and some security cameras later.
