Product description

Plunge into this go-for-the-jugular sci-fi thriller starring Peter Weller (RoboCop) and Richard Crenna (First Blood) and featuring non-stop action, nerve-shattering suspense and awesome creatures by special-effects legend Stan Winston (Aliens). On the dark and forbidding ocean floor, the crew of a deep-sea mining rig discovers a sunken freighter that harbors a deadly secret: a genetic experiment gone horribly wrong. With a storm raging on the surface and no hope of rescue, the captain (Weller) and his team are propelled into a spine-tingling battle for survival against the ultimate foe—a hideous monster that cannot die...and lives to kill. Directed by George P. Cosmatos (Tombstone) from a script by David Webb Peoples (Blade Runner) and Jeb Stuart (Die Hard), Leviathan is a gripping and imaginative thrill ride that will leave you gasping for air…and clawing for the surface! Featuring Amanda Pays, Daniel Stern, Ernie Hudson, Michael Carmine, Lisa Eilbacher, Hector Elizondo, Meg Foster and music by Jerry Goldsmith (Alien).

OUTSTANDING 4K UHD TRANSFER!!

OUTSTANDING 4K UHD TRANSFER!!
1989 Leviathan I watched this in theatre as a youngster along with The Abyss & Deep Star Six that same year. 3 similar films all released close together . It’s great to finally own leviathan on both blu ray & 4k . Both transfers looked fantastic! Dialogue was a little weak at times but not always . Just made some adjustments to my preference .5.1 & 2.0 DTS-HD MSTR are your options. Definitely recommend to any and all Sci-Fi horror fans! Slipcover is absolutely gorgeous ! It does have reversible insert cover sorry I forgot to photograph it . Also I pre ordered this film and it arrived yesterday the day before official release day which was great however, I notice 鶹 Canada doesn’t have any in stock which is shocking and disappointing. Hope this isn’t a trend . 鶹 USA has them still. Get your copy before they are gone ! Not a lot of special features just a few interviews trailers etc . Good enough for me . A little over priced but this was a must have ! 5 stars easy !! Thank you 鶹 👏

Leviathan is one of those movies that you either love, or just don't care about. Released in an era when underwater horror was the new space (this is Aliens meets The Thing set in an undersea mining operation). The cast is solid - Peter Weller (the OG Robocop), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and a youngish Daniel Stern (Home Alone). The premise is sheer fun. Is it wildly original? No, but it's executed well enough and the creature effects and overall production are solid for its time.

The transfer here by Kino is very well done. Clean, sharp picture. No sign of being overly reliant on DNR. Sound is good as well with a DTS-MA surround track, plus 2-channel.

The Abyss and Deep Star Six were released around the same time. More recently you've got Underwater. These types of horror films always get my attention- the setting being just a tad more familiar and relatable than the vastness of space. The Abyss might be the best of them, but Leviathan is a guilty pleasure title for sure.

Not reviewing the movie cause if you bought it, you know the storyline. I’m gonna talk about picture and soundtrack. The picture in the 4K is fantastic. But the sound in the 5.1 surround, both in the 4K and Blu-ray Disc is horrible. Was expecting much better for a 5.1 dts sound. End up watching the movie in the 2.0 dts sound to have clarity of the voices. So in the final, picture is great for a movie that far back, but the soundtrack doesn’t have much significant improvement in the 4K or blu-ray version.

Artigo chegou em tempo recorde e em excelentes condições. O filme em si é um clássico do género, há muito que queria ter, ainda para mais remasterizado em 4K.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leviathan Terror en la Profundidad.

Deep Star Six (1989) fue la primera de varias películas de monstruos submarinos que se estrenaron en el 1989 y 1990, incluyendo The Abyss (1989), Leviathan (1989), The Evil Below (1989),Deepstar Six (1989), and The Rift (aka Endless Descent, 1990).

Excellent sci-fi thriller with non-stop action and plenty of suspense. Centres on a crew of deep sea miners and a sunken freighter that hosted a genetic experiment that went wrong which created a monster that lives to kill. Throw in a raging storm on the surface and little hope of rescue and you have a recipe for a very entertaining movie.

Another top quality euro import. Took a while for delivery but came on time, was decently priced and again, much like my Spanish copy of DeepStar Six which was purchased at the same time, very surprised by the image and sound.
Utterly ridiculous The Thing ripoff though with great creature work by the legendary Stan Winston and a great performance from Peter Weller... love it!
