- Reviewed in Canada on May 9, 2017Verified PurchaseI'm not a big fan of Zelda (not even from the first NES iteration) so this one is perfect for an alternative single-player game (seriously, why are all the Switch games multiplayer?). It takes a while to complete but not forever, and you don't die, you fall apart. Its amazing. Some issue with sound but none with play-ability or graphics. Yes, its geared for young people but even this old person got a couple of laughs from it.
- Reviewed in Canada on January 9, 2022Verified PurchaseGraphics are well done. A lot to the game to keep you interested. Not hard at all. A lot of references to movies and actors voices made this game 10 ++
- Reviewed in Canada on April 8, 2023Verified PurchaseGood games 8 year old loves it.
- Reviewed in Canada on May 6, 2017Verified PurchaseThe Nintendo Switch version of LEGO City Undercover is a great game, but struggles on this platform. I've played it on the Wii U and while the gameplay remain intact, there is clearly a gap with processing power. During the sequences in open world, and especially when you're in a fast vehicle, you'll see the game struggles to keep up. That said, once you accept this technicality, the game is a pleasure to play, especially with two players in split screen.
There's lots of replay value here and you can think of it as a kid friendly version of GTA. The assembly of spare parts, quick switch between different skins of characters, and other nuts and bolts keep things fresh. Each mission can be replayed in order to get 100%, which requires searching every corner and breaking absolutely everything you can. At times, you might think this is demolition derby while you go around vandalizing pop machines and other fixtures.
Overall, it's similar to GTA with an open world layout and a chain of missions coupled with exploration. Even though the map is only of a modest size, there is plenty of visual variety defining neighbourhoods. Downtown is festive and colorful, the seaside populated by tourists, detailed national park and local farms, downtown Asian "Chinatown", the "Albatross" prison, and other finely tuned landmarks.
The game remains fun and accessible to kids at the same time. There are certain constraining elements to ensure younger players don't get lost in the mechanics such as using a fixed camera angle. In fact, by 5 and 7 year old love this game and their ONLY gripe was the long loading times between scenarios/missions.
The Good:
- Long gameplay of around 15-20 hours to complete, and that's not including side activities or exploring
- Fairly small map but very well detailed and varied
- Lots of variety to the main character, making you "change" into different archetypes to solve things (eg. crook, safe cracker)
- Always something happening around you in the city
- Lots of humor and parody, some might be lost to younger players
- Well done voice acting (in most parts)
- TWO PLAYER CO-OP!
The Bad:
- Fixed camera angle can cause problems in some areas
- Game is designed to be accessible so challenges/missions/objectives are quite simple

- Reviewed in Canada on January 8, 2022Verified PurchaseGreat game for kids AND adults. You can go through the story or just roam around as you wish.
- Reviewed in Canada on February 20, 2022Verified PurchaseMy 6yr old grandson is itching to play GTA ( NOT gonna happen! lol) so I was searching for a kid friendly game that had some GTA aspects without the R Rated portion. This definitely hits the mark. He loves it, and figured out how to play right away.
